Took my Explorer to dealer due to a whining noise coming from transmission Nov 7 2017. I was contacted by dealer that they confirmed the noise and was not at all normal. Once they got to my truck, transmission was removed and found case was leaking and clutches burned up in the auto transmission. Under warranty Ford told dealer to rebuild transmission and replace new case. Reinstalled transmission and while test driving, started miss shifting going in and out of 4-5th gear so now a different issue from originally taken in.

Transmission was removed again and found a part (sun gear) misaligned and was "corrected". Reinstalled again and drove fine until came to a stop and shifted into 5th gear and left in 5th gear from a stop. Ford recommended dealer to reprogram with new software and did not fix. 4th time, Ford requested the valve body be replace. Valve body had to be ordered. Once in they replace and test drove for a bit and "checked out fine". At this time vehicle has been at dealer for over a month.

Dealer contacted me notifying truck was good and ready. Picked up at 7:15pm on a Monday and by 7:30 Transmission acted up worse than ever. I noticed truck quit advancing and rpm went to 4000 rpm, transmission was not engaged then all of a sudden engaged jerking the vehicle forward. Coming to a stop the vehicle roughly shifted hard into 1st gear. Taking off from a stop felt like transmission was starting off 4th gear or slipping. Almost got t boned when transmission "release" in the middle of an intersection the engaged. The quick engagement made the tires squeal and the truck torque steer almost towards a curb. Dealer called at that time including Ford roadside so truck could be towed.

Next day, Tuesday, service adviser called and let me know the problem was duplicated with their shop foreman driving it. Dealer submitted a request to replace Transmission. Now waiting. I don feel safe at all having my wife drive or my children placed in danger with this vehicle.
