CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002 Ford Focus 2.0L SOHC engine has a defect where the intake valve seat fails. The valve then falls into the cylinder, destroying the engine & most owner relationships with Ford in the process.
Bought this car (SE) in 2002 brand new. Had few issues here and there but was happy 'till this problem. My son heard a rattling noise from the hood and lost power steering. He drove carefully another mile to our drive way.
Replaced the pulley assembly. Same noise. Realized it was harmonic balancer. Replaced. Noise is gone and engine run smooth when idle. Made a test drive. It starts normal and accelerates normal. After couple minutes, you stop on an exit, the car moves like a turtle. You push the gas, still no action for 20-30 seconds and accelerates. But cannot go higher than 45 mph.
Took to shop, no result. Made replaced spark plugs, plug wires, timing belt, fuel filter and pump as last resort. Still the same. Both shop spent so many hours to diagnose with no result. It is in my drive way and not sure what to do. Those two shops are very skilled technicians.and always solved my car problems. Anyone suggest anything?
