2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

After getting off of the interstate and heading to dinner with my girlfriend, everything was okay and running smooth. While heading back home, the "service advanctrac" and "service power steering" lights come on unexpectedly. So, I pull over, turn off the car and turn it back on. This solved nothing, furthermore it made the issue even worse. Simply search "2010 Ford Fusion" on google and you'll see many stories just like mine in a matter of a few scrolls. The worst part of this whole thing isn't even the hundreds and hundreds of dollars that must be put into the repair. If my power steering would have went out while I was on the interstate, I would not be here today to tell my story. So, what's it worth to you, Ford" is my life worth the $1,500 to you or will you let this continue to happen until a life is taken"... but that question might unfortunately be too late.
I have had my power steering replaced B4 at Ford of ventura they took about 2 months to find the correct electrical power steering rack for my vehicle now the power steering rack is out again and they refuse to fix it because I filed with the beter buisnes bureal about recently being overcharged for a ignition switch I would like my power steering to work can it please B replaced!?
The steering locked up and was an indicator that the steering needed to be serviced now! so cant steer the vehicle. I was at work to leave and couldn't move the steering wheel. I had all I could to move it out of the way. Very dangerous needless to say.
The electronic power steering went out when pulling in to a parking lot restaurant with no warning. As the vehicle was slowing down and the turn was already made off the highway, the power steering stopped working. Parked the car ate and came back out to see if the problem was just a random issue, it was not. Thankfully the parking lot was empty as it could have caused an accident.

Upon starting the car the warning lights started to go off saying there was a "power steering assist fault". at that time, there was no power steering. The car could still be operated but was very difficult to steer.
While driving kids to school check autotrac and check power steering lights activated. After dropping kids off and arriving home, car was turned off. Car was started again to take to garage to be checked, but wife could not turn wheel. Husband with much effort drove 1/4 mile to garage. Upon checking w/google have found hundreds of same complaints, some involving accidents.
Sudden failure of the power assisted steering with the service power steering now and service advancetrac now messages. Fully reverting to manual steering with no warnings until the event occurred. At the time of the failure the car was travelling on a straight section of a paved road at roughly 35 mph.
The steering assist and advance trac both came on and power steering no longer functions. It has been functioning fine for the last 8months I have owned the vehicle.
"power steering assist fault" warning came on and I couldn't drive. Then I turned it off and on again and it worked. I am afraid to drive this car, if I could suddenly lose the power steering, especially since I am 7 months pregnant.
The light has come on that signifies "power steering assist fault". the wheel stiffens up and the vehicle looses power steering. It starts as soon as the ignition is started. The vehicle's steering wheel locks up.
I was driving my vehicle down the street when my power steering colum locked up and and error popped up stating power steering assist fail. I could have crashed my car and seriously hurt myself and someone else. If I was turning and my steering colum locked up I would have definitely crashed. This is a huge problem within this make a model.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 30 mph, the power steering indicator illuminated and the steering seized. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The power steering on the Ford Fusion 2010 went out and while parked and the steering was locked. The steering wheel stopped moving totally. Then it came back for a little and went out again.
I turned my car on and I was unable to move the steering wheel at all, notification lit up stating "power steering fault". I had the power steering fluid checked and it was not the issue. After doing research I found that this is yet again another issue with 2010 Ford Fusion and has happened to many people. If this happened on the road I would be unable to control my vehicle most likely resulting in crash. This needs to be recalled asap
I was driving home at night and attempted to make a right turn at approximately 30 mph after slowing from 45 mph. As I attempted to turn the service power steering light came on my dashboard and I found myself trying to Pilot the car with without assistance. This turned out to be difficult to say the least and was only made more difficult because I had little time to register what was happening. The roads were icy and there was a car directly behind me so stopping would likely have resulted it an accident; I forced the wheel but even then I ended up in the oncoming lane and had to struggle to get back into the right lane. Thankfully there was no one in the oncoming lane or an accident likely would have occurred and thankfully that turn was into my neighborhood so I had no further turns to make. The next morning the power steering was still out and the car is effectively useless to me in this state. I do not have $1800 to purchase a replacement part, especially not when that part will likely have to be replaced in the near future. I can't sell the car to anyone like this and I can't afford a new one so I honestly don't know what I'm going to do at this point. It's dissappointing that this same part was recalled for subsequent models but not for the 2010 model; I hope there is some justification for not recalling the part and lives aren't being put at risk as a result of incompetence, corruption, or negligence but I am a cynical man. Fix this
Had tires rotated and one day later got a flat tire and steering became very hard while driving the car. "service steering now" illuminated on dash. Then had the tire replaced and still had the steering problemwith steering. Service steering now is still showing up.
