2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

While driving my 2010 Fusion on vacation last week, my epas suddenly stopped working and the car immediately became extremely difficult to steer. At the time this happened, a warning message displayed that said, 'service advancetrac, service power steering' and a warning light came on. There were no indications of an issue prior to this. As far as I can tell, this has been a problem on many Fusion and has resulted in a recall of Fusion for other model years but not 2010 (so far??). it's frustrating that this appears to be a known issue for this vehicle, including 2010's, but the model year is not included in the recall. The local Ford dealership just told me the system needs to be replaced (this includes the steering column), and they estimated the cost to be $2200.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. When the vehicle was started, the message "power assist failure" displayed. The contact stated that the power steering malfunctioned and made the steering wheel very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (guess motors-guess Ford, 457 steubenville rd SE, carrollton, oh) where it was diagnosed that the power assist steering gears failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
While driving to work, the power steering went out in the car at 55 mph as I entered a turn making it nearly impossible to control. Fortunately, I was able to bring the car safely to a stop on the side of the road. Very unsafe! this model year should be added to the existing 2011 through 2012 recall.
The power steering quit, which made steering the vehicle by my 21 Y/O daughter nearly impossible. Fortunately, it quit just as she entered a parking place a service power steering now, message appeared at the moment it failed.

Power steering assist fault. Lost all power steering after starting the car. The fault indicator came across the dash. 2011-2012 were recalled but not the 2010 according to internet lots and lots of people complaining of same issue
While driving to work the morning of June 28, 2018 the power steering in my car stopped working. I almost couldn't control my car. Was able to get it to the mechanic that afternoon, who then informed me that the entire eps system had failed and would have to be replaced. I then got a call the next day stating that in order to replace it that I also had to replace both tie rods due to the being attached to the eps system. After speaking to someone at a Ford dealership they told me that they thought this was already under recall. Luckily when I was driving I was only going 25 mph in my neighborhood, if I were going any faster it could have cause a serious accident.
The steering gear / rack and pinion has failed therefor no power steering... this car requires the same part number as the Fusion recalled for same issue beginning in 2011 prt# ae5Z-3504de why isn't the 2010 included" lucky for me I can drive with no power steering in light of the fact I don't have 2000.000 to get it fixed. What is it going to take to get the recall extended to include the 2010? deaths" I work for a mechanic and kow what is wrong and the part numbers and the fact that this unit is used in multiple Ford...I feel like we the 2010 owners are being shunned because Ford doesn't want to pay for our recalls
Vehicle lost the ability to power steer when vehicle was turned on making it difficult to drive. Warning sign said power steering assist fault. The issue had occurred several times but I just turn it off and turn it back on and the issue would come off but this last time it didnt.
Power steering assist randomly will not work when starting car. Makes it so the car is very hard turn. Have to turn the car off and back on again to reset system. Has been happening more often recently and am afraid it will happen while driving.
Steering randomly went out while stationary in a parking lot. Turned car on and got the error message "power steering assist fault". could have been even more dangerous if car was in motion. Recalls on 2011 and 2012 Fusion but not 2010. Repair is very costly.
Vehicle power steering assist fault light came up while I was driving making it difficult to maneuver, I was turning at an intersection and almost got into an accident.
Every time I push my brakes to stop, my brakes goes all the way down to the floor. I've replaced my master cylinder and my brake booster but it's dong the same thing.
Recently bought a used 2010 Ford Fusion SE 2.5 for my teenage daughter, after a few weeks of owning it, the car would once in a while pop up a "service power steering now" message on the info display, when it did this it would disable the electric power steering.. it didn't matter if you were driving down the highway or in a parking lot. Pulling over, shutting it off, and restarting would temporarily clear it up, until the day that "steering assist fault" appeared and never went away.. now I have a car with no power steering for my teenage daughter.. took it to a local shop, they called back later and said "we can't fix it because after we replace the steering rack it has to be flashed, and that has to be done at the dealer".. I called the dealer, a $1,400 power steering repair on a Ford sedan" really? this isn't a high end german car.. why on earth would Ford not do a recall for all of these" do a google search, this is quite obviously a design flaw.
Lost power steering capability without warning while driving on highway. Warning notice after the fact: Service advancetrac, power steering assist fault.

The car has 120400 miles on it and has already been repaired for this issue one time by a Ford dealership. The first incident happened driving down the road 2 months after purchasing the car from a dealership as certified pre-owned with 67508 miles.. the first repair was covered under warranty. Dealer repair note from 1st incident: Service diag & replace steering gear & reprogram pscm & perform alignment & test
