CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.
And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

Brake pedal drops almost to floor at times greatly increasing stopping distance when approaching a stop or when I slow down. This necessitates the need to pump the brake pedal and in extreme circumstances needing to swerve to avoid a collision. This problem occurs with no warning at all. This seems to be a known issue with the Fusion.
Car was idling in line at a drive thru for about 5 minutes. Driver released floor brake to move up in line. After pulling up a few feet, and then trying to slow the car, the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floor and braking distance was extended. Driver was afraid the car wouldn't stop. Car has a new electronic throttle body and hydraulic ABS pump, but problem persists. Driver is considering getting a new car.
On two occasions the brake systems failed to work. 1. driving on rt 4 (double lane state rd.) in Maine speed approx 60 mph. There was 4 to 5 cars ahead of me. Suddenly, everyone applied their brakes. The first car in line decided to take a left hand turn. I applied my brakes-brake pedal went to the floor--no antilock brakes. Had to swerve into oncoming lane. Finally car stopped. A second time it happened was on a hill in dover, nh. There is a traffic light at bottom of hill. As I started down the hill, I applied the brakes again no brakes no antilock brakes. Luckily was able to stop by time I reached the light. I took car to a local garage they test drove and it operated fine. They removed wheels and looked at all the brakes. The rear brakes, calipers, pads etc were replaced a year ago. The front brakes looked brand new even though there was almost 52,000 miles on them.pads and rotors looked like new, shiny, no scratches. Could not find the problem. We decided to replaced the rotors and pads with a softer version. Seems to be working"?"
After going to several service places with my brakes they are yet giving issues having to pump them to stop. Power steering system assist shut down while driving and door latches won't open from the inside. The local Ford place said I need to contact Ford Motor Company because there are recalls for my issues but not for my VIN number and I need to get them added under my VIN so they can fix it with no charge.
Brakes failed stopping suddenly at 70 mph nearly hitting a row of cars ahead of me pedal went to the floor increasing stopping distance probably 400 percent with very weal brakes. Brake light and ABS inop light illuminated. Was able to drive car home slowly using hybrid electric motor brakes. Repair shop said brake control module has failed this is a low mileage car unacceptable could get someone killed.

The brake pedal is soft and travels further than normal. Braking distance is significantly increased. I brought the car to the dealership and turned out that the hydraulic control and the electronic control units are both faulty, based on some research it appears this is a known issue. It has a new master cylinder and brakes have been bled professionally. This did not cure the problem. It is unsafe. I want the dealer to do something about this at no cost to me. This is a recall item for 2010 Fusion, but not 2012.why"?" I've seen several complaints about this same issue why hasn't anything been done, safety should be top priority.
The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before slowing down even when accelerating at slow speeds. They're very sponges when making stops and almost non existent after hitting a bump in the road.
The brake pedal is soft and travels further than normal. Braking distance is significantly increased. This began after the ABS system engaged several weeks ago after normal braking over a rough section of road and it has not returned to normal. All brake pads and rotors were replaced and the system was flushed but the problem remains. Based on some research it appears this is a known issue caused by a faulty ABS module.
On occasion when the brakes are pressed it simply falls to the floor and has to be immediately repressed. It has a new master cylinder and brakes have been bled professionally. This did not cure the problem. It is unsafe. I want the dealer to do something about this, no cost to me. Ocures while in motion.
While traveling at a slow rate of speed the brakes on my 2012 Ford Fusion hybrid failed to engage, with the pedal traveling all the way to the floor. The car was tuned off and restarted and the brakes seemed to work again. I had the vehicle towed tot he dealership and turned out the the hydraulic control and the electronic control units are both faulty. This is a recall item for 2010 Fusion hybrids, but not my year.
My son was driving & preparing to stop at a stop sign. It was a road he was very familiar with. The brake pedal went to the floor. He attempted to slow the vehicle & turn the corner by swerving up an embankment slightly. He realized it wouldn't slow. He pumped the brakes several times with no brake response. He chose between a garage & a tree to stop the vehicle. He headed for the tree. In insurance investigation, brakes functioned normally. Severe undercarriage damage had been repaired less than 2 weeks prior to the accident. Police were called to accident scene & filed report. There were no skid marks at the scene. The speed was estimated at 35-40 mph - within/lower than speed limit. Consumer states that the vehicle was totaled in the accident. Insurance company is moving vehicle to a salvage pool. They conducted an investigation and looked at the ABS/hcu and determined that the brakes did not cause failure.
This references tracking no. 11246006. For the second time, Nov. 29, 2019, my brakes failed. Ford Fusion 2012, 40,100 miles. I was parked in a garage - started car, put in drive and all failure lights came on and no brakes when I used the brake pedal. My invoice for $3,200 to repair stated "inspected and found that ECU and hcu both have internal failure not allowing computers to control respective components.... per pin point test." I believe this failure is a result of defective parts on the Ford vehicle. This car has only 40,000 miles -- it should not have a failure of this magnitude. I believe I should be refunded the amount I had to pay for repair. P.S. after paying $3,200 for the repair, I was presented with a car that had so many leaves all over the car, I had to use my snow removal wand to remove the leaves before I could see out the windows -- this is not acceptable. They had my car for 12 days to repair??
If I hit a large bump or going down a rough road if you go to hit the brakes it's like they aren't there and the brake pedel goes all the way to the floor with a little brake at the floor, you have to stop and turn the car off and pump the brakes a few times and then they are ok, it also happens when the ABS works, I think the problem is in the ABS valve assembley they recalled the 2008 to 2011's for this problem but not the 2012's
On September 26, 2014, I was involved in an accident as we were driving on a city street to where my passenger seat belt did not work upon frontal head on impact or my airbags didnt go off causing me to collide into the dash board. This caused ligament tearing in my right hand/shoulder as that was the initial impact. Now I have to continue to suffer from limitations on the use of my right hand/shoulder complications. For the brake issue beginning December 1, 2019. It has come up that the emergency brake is sticking and tearing through my brakes as I am driving on the street or even highway causing it to smoke around my back tires. I nearly lost my life once, and do not want it to happen again, but when checking brake recalls it's only up to a 2010 model and I have a 2012 model. This issue has caused the padding on my breaks to completely disappear leaving me unable to come to a stop.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. When the vehicle was taken to have the oil changed, the mechanic heard a winding sound coming from the transmission.
