CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Apparently Honda's don't have decent power seat tracks. The front seats wobble and also jerk around at certain places when the seat is moved. The dealer says this is normal, and indeed all the Accords on their lot had the same problem. The several German and American cars with power seats we've owned had no such problem.

I have a 2008 accord EXLV6 and I feel that this car is a pile for lack of better words. The power seats are hopping and jerking around and the car is brand new. I reported the problem to Honda and they told me that there will be a recall eventually regarding this issue but so far nothing yet. This car has been to the dealership multiple times for interior trim repairs. The carpet next to the trunk release on the drivers side has a tear in it. I reported it to Honda and they told me that they would have to replace the carpet kit in the front and it would be a major repair and that they couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be interior noises after the repair so I never got it fixed. The lower trim on both front doors was warped and had to be replaced. The carpet keeps falling out of the trim next to the door on the passengers side. Honda claims that there was nothing wrong with it. The biggest one for me is the dash board. There is a trim piece on the passengers side next to the a/c vent and glovebox that is loose and not staying in place. Honda has ordered the part two times and it still isn't in place properly. Honda is calling out a representative from the factory to look at my car and they are telling me that I might have to replace the whole dash board and they will have my car for over a week. I have never had to have this done to a car before. This is my first Honda and I am so disappointed. I feel like this car is a total piece of crap and it irritates me to drive it because it has so many problems. I usually buy toyotas and I plan to go back to them as soon as I get rid of this car. I want absolutely nothing to do with this car, in fact I hardly drive it, the car sits in my garage. I have had the car since September of 2008 and it only has 2,100 miles on it. My wife has had a Honda before and she didn't like it. She only had it for 3 months and traded it in. I don't feel that this is a premium vehicle. I don't understand what the hype is over these cars. I have had many toyotas and never had I been to the dealership so many times.

Accord EX-L 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

When I used the power seat button to move forward, it was good but then when I moved backwards the seat was wobbly and it felt like the seat moving assembly was inferior quality. Took it to one Honda dealer and they said they would change the defective parts but then the same problem was still there and they refused to fix it. Then I took the car to another dealer at different town and they fixed it finally.

Accord EX-L 2.4L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 3,000 miles

The power seat, after about 3,000 miles, started to jerk when adjusted from front to back on the track. The dealership replaced the power drivers seat track. However the problem has returned recently, and the part will need a second replacing.
