CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

My 08 Accord V6 had the oil consumption problem and the miss firing of the spark plugs. Finally gave up last week completely , the engine block and the crank shaft are cracked, basically need a new engine. I have about 65000 miles ( no Warranty) I am very disappointed, this is my 5th Honda car within past 15 years, and it looks like the last one, I am in contact with Honda customer service, they asked me to tow the car to a Honda dealer which I did, and waiting for an answer, I have contacted an attorney, and unless Honda fixes the car, lawsuit is in order.

Accord E-XL 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

I always heard Honda made excellent vehicles that is why I switched from American made. How sorry I am. I was driving almost 100 miles from my home by myself..engine light came on...car started to "jiggle". I only had 3.8 miles to go to get to destination...barely made it. Car was towed back home by AAA on a flatbed.

Now I am all alone...husband had to drive to get me.

Dealer tells me I need a new engine!! Engine block is cracked and rear cylinder head is destroyed....will cost almost $7,000......then he tells me it is still under the 5 yr/60,000 mile warranty.....but I now have no car for at least a week

I am afraid to drive this car when fixed..not sure what to do??
