CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.
For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.
Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2014 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

On [XXX] just after dark I picked up the car at Detroit at the motel airport parking and proceeded north on [XXX] to [XXX] when I noticed the red battery signal on the dash. A warning notice said Check charging system. By the time I reached [XXX] the dash lights and power steering went out as well as all the lights and emergency flashers. I coasted up the ramp and through a red light and the car stopped blocking South bound [XXX]. I called 911 they got me a tow to Fisher Honda in Ypsilanti Mi. The failure of a Alternator was the cause. We were unable to warn other cars and protect our car. We were lucky. In July 2023 after having brake pads and rotors replaced at the Honda dealership, several dashboard lights went on: LDW/FCW, traction control, steering, and ABS lights came on. After a diagnostic test at the dealership, they wanted over $2600 for parts and labor for a new ABS module. However, this part is -??on backorder-?? with NO ETA. We spent less than $700 to have a mechanic remove the current ABS module, send it to CA to a place we found on eBay that repairs them, and have the mechanic replace it after bleeding the brake lines and replacing the brake fluid. This is a KNOWN issue (see Reddit, YouTube, these complaints, mechanics-??even the dealership) on a part that should last the lifetime of the car. I expected more from Honda.
ABS Module failed and hence indicators for ABS, Electronic steering, stability assist, and tire low pressure have come on. On diagnosis with the dealer, it was told that the module has failed, and it has to be replaced. Such low-quality parts were not expected from Honda.
Power steering, and ABS light flash on at random. The vehicle sometimes veers off and steering is frequently very very loose or very very tight. Also, there is a whining that never stops when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, the vehicle almost shut off and the entire dash and radio shut off and back on. When I am at a stop or cars at idle everything will dim and car. Sounds like it-??s almost going to die and then back to normal had looked at and they couldn-??t find any noticeable issues.
The ABS control module is defective on my vehicle. The electronic components have a poor design which allows the electrical contacts inside the module to break lose. Honda is aware of many of these complaints but has failed to perform a recall.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while starting the vehicle in the morning or after stopping and parking the vehicle, the contact had difficulty to start the vehicle. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery and starter motor needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced but not the starter motor. The vehicle was partially repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
There was a sudden loss of all control of the vehicle for a few seconds, i.e., no steering/braking etc. and swerved; it could have easily caused an accident if there were any cars in the next lane. When control came back, pulled to a left turning lane and stopped. After a couple minutes, started driving again slowly and with fear. There were/are no warning lamps/messages/symbols prior to or after this happened.
1. VSA Modulator: VSA ABS Brake Control Module and is still in my car 2. Flashing lights distracting when driving and no replacements available per dealer (see below). Concern if problem causes Break system degradation or failure. 3. I have the service record from Performance Kings Honda, Cincinnati, OH 513-774-6013 with detailed notes below INv # 1146638 4. No, part is still installed in my vehicle so I can drive it 5. LDW, FDW, ABS, TPS (tire), Power Steering, etc. appeared without symptoms/warning in Summer 2023. All of a sudden, many of the lights on the dashboard lit up. LDW, FDW, ABS, TPS (tire), Power Steering, and maybe another one or two. Mechanic recommended changing the battery. After the battery was replaced, the lights should have reset automatically. When they didn't reset as expected, the mechanic tried to diagnose the issue and found no mechanical issues and didn't get a code from the scanner he had. After 6 months, I took the car to the Honda Dealer who diagnosed the issue:"Diag-Electrical - Found DTC-66-113 Pressure Sensor Malfunction Recommend Replace VSA Modulator. Dealer says the part is not available and there is no expectation of the part being restocked in the future "Galactic Back-order". Cost of $168 to diagnose the problem. This part is not available for sale any where on the internet, but could be remanufactured by vendors on eBay and Amazon ( safety problem #1). Reviewed many postings across the internet from owners of Honda Accord 2014 and many other models and years. The warning lights being on and flashing constantly is very distracting and the Error messages replace 2 of the functions on my odometer display. I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle should the problem deteriorate further and various systems fail. The part is still in my car at this point and is available for inspection. This issue should be reported to Honda and covered by a recall.
Two weeks ago the FCW/LDW, Steering Wheel, Tire Pressure, ABS, and Emergency Brake lights came on the dashboard. I took the car to the mechanic and it was diagnosed as a malfunctioning ABS Modulator. According to the shop, they are dealing with a lot of similar cases for Honda Accords of around the same age. According to the dealer, the cost to replace this sensor is $1,900 since it basically controls a lot of important braking functions. I wished Honda would issue a recall of this matter considering the number of vehicles affected.
The car intermittantly will not start and can leave me stranded. It appears to be a faulting ignition switch as the starter works fine so long as the electrical system turns it on. This appears to be a common problem with this vehicle that was recalled on the previous 2013 model and apparently not fixed with the 2014 model.
FCW-Forward Collision Warning, LDW-Lane Departure Warning, ABS, Traction Control, Power Steering, Low Tire Pressure lights on. Attributed to common VSA/ABS module malfunction. Driving with these electrical malfunctions dangerous. Honda not willing to replace. My car has only 45,000 miles with no collision history.
I took my 2014 Honda Accord Ex in for repairs on September 4, 2023 and the Honda dealership informed me that after replacing the battery that the it that the VSA Modulator on the car has gone bad which has been a common problem with this year Honda Accord and others from 2013 all the way to the 2017. And this part has been on back order for months. This a shame.
Push button start had occasional starting problem. But if I tried starting a few minutes later it would work then it completely stopped starting. Having car towed to dealer tomorrow for diagnosing. I believe it is a starter issue. Even though car is 2014 it has low mileage.
My 2014 Honda Accord EX sedan has/had defective Starter and ABS Modulator, Many Honda Accord vehicles in these year range are having or had these same problems. These vehicles should not be having these problems at low mileage. I believe the ABS problems are a safety concern.
ABS module/modulator is faulty. Dashboard lights come on and anti lock brakes do not work in rainy conditions or any condition when braking hard to stop. Many people have experienced the exact same thing. The dealership confirmed that it is the abs/gas modulator.
I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. I was on the right lane and it forced me into the left lane. The driver I cut off was able to brake just in time without hitting my car. No lights on dashboard. Not able to reproduce by dealership. Dealership scanned code 85-01 VSA system malfunction and is charging $3k to replace the VSA modulator part #04571-T2F-L11. No other symptoms prior. I have dashcam video as well [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When im driving I get my "Check Engine Light" that turns on, and it says "Check charge system" which I assume is possibly referring to the recall of the battery cable. When I make frequent stops my car suddenly will turn off, as if it lost power, and I will have to then exit the vehicle, to adjust the cables for the battery, therefore its putting my life in danger, as im having to turn the car back on.
I received a diagnosis from Honda Dealership today that my 2014 vehicle has a failed VSA Modulator which regulates brakes and all abs features. They stated it was only from wear and tear on my vehicle. I am only at 109,000 miles. They quoted me a price of $3000 to fix the problem and noted I could not pick up my car without signing a statement that I understood the problem and understood that my brakes would eventually fail without fixing the problem. I cannot currently afford to fix the problem or safely drive my vehicle.
