CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

While driving on a major highway with busy traffic enroute to the Honda dealership my 2017 Honda CRV experienced a significant drop in power dropping from 65mph speed limit to 20mph. I had semi trailers behind me and it was a very dangerous situation. I had to drive a couple of miles to find a place I could pull over onto the shoulder out of traffic. Losing power like this puts lives at risk. Honda should provide a recall! Honda claims it as a product upgrade to the 1.5 liter turbocharged engine touring model. Gasoline was getting into the oil as it wasn't burning properly so putting my life and probably damaging my car.

While driving on the highway, the vehicle started to stall and shake. The instrument panel went black, then the audio screen went black. The gas gauge light came on, then turned off on its own. The instrument panel lights came on, all of the warning indicators were on. The dealership stated that the fuel injectors needed replacing and that it would be covered under warranty. They also stated that the whole audio system would need to be replaced but that the part is on back order and would not be able to order until March 1, 2019.

Since the purchase of our new 2017 Honda CR-V, there has been gasoline getting into the engine oil. The oil level indicator or dip-stick shows the oil far above the full mark and there is an obvious strong oder of gasoline. When first starting the car, gasoline odors are very strong in the exhaust and sometimes within the car interior. Gasoline is considered a solvent and it will reduce the life of the engine if it is always leaking into the engine oil. I'm very concerned about safety and an engine fire. I contacted the service department three times about the problem. At my last visit, Honda finally acknowledge the problem a provided a software update. The problem remains unchanged. I'm very disappointed and frustrated with my new car and want some help getting it fixed or help with returning the car back to Honda and reimbursed for the cost. The problem occurs all the time, in cold and warm weather.

My 2017 CRV has been smelling of gasoline. When I checked the oil dipstick, the oil level was above the full mark. I contacted my dealership and explained this issue. Shortly afterward, I received a recall/"update" notice in the mail for this problem. I took my car into the dealership and the repairs were made (software update, replaced ac unit, oil change). One month has passed, and again, the oil levels are high and the cabin smells of gasoline. The oil level on the dipstick is, again, over the full mark. I contacted both the dealership and american Honda Motors regarding this issue. I have been given a case number and am waiting to hear back from America Honda Motors. I am taking pictures of the oil levels on the dipstick, documenting all contacts made with both the Honda dealership and America Honda Motors, and retaining all paperwork regarding repairs to my car concerning this issue.

The car strongly smelled of gas after running for short while for a long time. We ignored it initially. Later we realized that the odor was too strong to ignore and we have to open the window to get the smell out. The car was taken to the dealer who made some changes. It was taken care of. But the smell re-appeared after a couple of weeks and it was extremely strong during the extreme cold week, end of January 2019. Opened the hood and checked the engine oil level and the oil level was too high.

One day as I was driving, all problem lights on my dashboard began to turn on, chime, and and giving messages such as "tire pressure monitoring poblem", brake system, break hold system, power steering, etc..." and my features such as cruise control and break hold became disabled. We had the spark plugs changed and the problem continued. We did an oil change and discovered that there was over 5 quarts of oil collected when only 3.5 had been pured in, also the oil was smelling like gasoline. We started researching and it seems that this is a problem with this car/model. Mechanic diagnosed lower compression on cylinder #4 and kept getting a cylinder #4 error.

Notice very toxic gasoline smell in vehicle cabin when driving car during colder weather. Also, notice gasoline smell in garage after car is parked. Have been monitoring the oil level for the past two months. The oil level was 1" above the high level mark in December 2018 and took car to Honda dealer. They replaced the oil and made a software update per a Honda bulletin. They notified me in writing that the problem is under review and Honda techline and engineers are aware of issue but no service bulletins, updates or repairs are available as of this time( Dec. 14,2018) it is now Jan 28, 2019 and the toxic gas smell is much more severe. Usa Honda was contacted today and case registered for my vehicle. Honda usa told me to again contact the Honda dealer regarding the problem. The dealer has been contacted and I'm waiting to hear back to resolve this problem. Honda and NHTSA may not consider this a safety issue with this vehicle but it certainly could become a health issue which is why I am notifying NHTSA.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that oil was mixing with the fuel. The dealer (vandergriff Honda, 1104 w interstate 20, arlington, tx 76017, (817) 533-4266) noticed the failure and performed an oil change at no charge. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for another oil change 2,000 miles later. The contact had an oil sample sent off for diagnostic testing. The results showed over 5.3% of fuel in the oil and the contact was informed that any amount over 2% was indication of another failure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle be taken back to the dealer. The dealer stated that there was an unknown recall, but the contact's vehicle was not included. The dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in this manner. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,000.

As I was driving in the fast lane of the 405 freeway the car started to vibrate and make a lot of noise. Then it slowed down and would not accelerate at a normal rate. I went from 65 mph to about 30mph and barely avoided faster cars while pulling to the exit lane. I was able to take surface streets home. I thought it might be a blown head gasket so I checked the oil for water and found a lot of gas in it. The dipstick showed the level to be almost 1 1/4 inches above the max level line even after letting it sit for 30 minutes. When I took it to the dealership they said that this is normal and said the manufacturer said all I need is an oil change.

In cold weather, when the car isn't to full operating temperature, fuel mixes with the engine oil which increases the oil volume over time. Honda has issued a recall in northern states but refuses to address other states where the problem exists (problem fully documented from the local dealer). Recall needs to be expanded to all states. Too much engine oil (mixed with fuel) will cause the car to stall. In addition, after talking to Honda corporate - they indicated a potential long term impact with damaged a cam shaft. Yet, they still refuse to fix my car or provide free oil changes until they decide to fix it. This has been an ongoing issue for over a year - fully documented.

I check engine oil yesterday and found level very high on dipstick and smelling strongly of gasoline. I called the Honda dealer checkered flag where I purchased the vehicle and took it directly there.it had only been 180 miles driven since last oil change at dealer. They offered to change oil again and then told me to keep checking oil level and return to dealer in 1000 miles. I was told the oil level was half quart over filled and was because gas was not being burned during combustion because engine was not hot enough. They said it was normal and not to worry. I don't think the oil will protect my engine when it is so diluted with gasoline.I filed a complaint and got a case number [xxx] from Honda America, but want the problem to be fixed before there is long term damage to my engine.
