CarComplaints.com Notes: There's an emerging trend of transmission problem with the 2010 Elantra at fairly early mileage.

So far owners report having the transmission replaced under warranty but that won't hold up for much longer. It may be a bit premature but for now we're putting the "CLUNKER" rating on the 2010 Elantra just to be safe.

Speaking of being safe, you might not be unless Hyundai can figure out why their airbags aren't deploying.

I took the car in for the 90K service. The dealership mechanic claimed my oil and transmission pans were nearly rusted through on the bottom and needed replaced. I have had many a car. But I've never had that happen. They said both pans were worn so thin they could practically push their fingers though them and would fail shortly. So, what could I do but have them replaced.

They not only hooked me for the cost of what seem to be wear plates on the bottom of both pans as well as the labor, they charged me $10 a quart for ATF and another $10 a quart for pouring it in the transmission after they were done. They also charged me $10 for paperwork. They list them as an oil pan and transmission pan on the charges. But, it seemed like they were just bottom plates and they didn't charge me for oil which I guess is a small blessing.

Have you heard of such problem? This was a Hyundai dealership doing this and charged me like it was open heart surgery at the hospital.
