Just off Interstate a mile maybe, and pop, thought I hit something in the dark. Pull over and find out the lower rear control arm snapped clean. Unbelievable. Stuck at night, children in the car. Fortunately it didn't happen 5 minutes earlier when we were going 70 down the interstate. Would be a very different story. To subsequently find out this is a known issue to Nissan, IRATE...

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima which was manufactured in 9/13.

2013 Nissan control arms were recalled for corrosion and snapping off. The same thing happened to my 2014.

Luckily I was driving slow enough. but if I were on a highway and driving 60+ I could of KILLED myself and or others. I also have kids in my car. This is not okay for Nissan to not have these looked at also especially if they were manufactured in 2013.

I will never buy a Nissan after this

This should be a recall on all of the Altima models with this style rear control arm. This is a very serious and dangerous condition. The control arm snapped while I was driving the vehicle causing me to almost lose all control of the vehicle. P9234 os a Nissan campaign, not a recall. It only applies to 2013 Altima models in the salt belt states in the US, and 13 and 14 models in Canada. This should be a recall for all Altimas of this body style, it is a very dangerous condition.

Nissan dealership wants to charge me $961.00 to replace the lower control arm, which is ridiculous because labor charges alone is 750.00 dollars!!! If this is happening to a lot of Nissans, then it should be a recall in the us for the 2014 models, not just in Canada.

control arm cracked

Nissan has a campaign on the 2013 Altimas With the exact same problem as mine. I bought mine in January 2014. Now they are telling me that my Vin number does not qualify me for them to pay to fix it. How messed up is that when it’s the exact same problem as their campaign is. I don’t think I will never buy another Nissan this is a problem that should be fixed by them and it is an unsafe issue dangerous to drive.

Our 17 year old son was driving the car about a 1/4 mile from our home. He was going approx 20mph. He hit a bump and immediately felt the car pull. He was able to get the car home. We looked undermtje car and the control arm was rusted and had broken. This was shocking for the age and miles of this car. Very thankfully our son wasnt going faster when it happened. This absolutely should not have been our out of pocket expense.

2014 Nissan Altima, driving down the road at 25mph and I heard a loud snap. Turned around to make sure I didn't run over anything or hit a pothole -- neither had happened. Continued on my way and realized car was pulling one way. A couple minutes later I got to my location and noticed right rear corner dropped down and wheel askew. Could wiggle wheel with car on the ground. Turns out I had a clean snap of the lower control arm. Scary seeing how I didn't hit anything, and luckily I wasn't speeding on the highway when it happened.

$1200 to fix both sides and get the car re-aligned.

Several weeks ago while driving 30 mph on a residential street my 2014 Nissan Altima at a certain point turned dramatically to the right, against my control. Luckily enough there were no people to my right or objects. I continued home going 10=15 mph stopping every few hundred yards because of the noise and shaking of my car. I brought the car several days later, driving 10-15 mph with my flashers on to a local repair shop. They brought me into the shop after the car was hoisted to show and tell me that the right control arm had separated and that I was very lucky that I wasn't involved in a crash. I have the broken control arm in my possession. It is a metal object weighing probably 7-8 lbs. In reliving the moment when the part broke I have come to the conclusion that based upon how the vehicle dramatically pulling like I was making a dead right turn at 30 mph, I believe my vehicle would have flipped over had I been going faster and I do a lot of thruway driving at 55-65 mph.

I contacted Nissan with what I consider to be a terrible safety issue and filed a complaint. The rep. I spoke to was primarily concerned in telling me that I could not be reimbursed for he charges as the vehicle was out of warranty and was not taken to an authorized Nissan dealer shop though I made it clear that I was more concerned about the safety issue versus reimbursement. He said there were no documented complaints for this. I don't believe that for a minute.

I purchased my vehicle brand new in December 2013.I rec'd a follow-up from Nissan asking me to rate the process that I went thru. I provided then what I am providing now. People driving a 2014 Nissan Altima are in serious danger of having control arms break. The 3 repair shop employees told me that they had never seen such a thing occur on any vehicle of any age. Collectively they have over 50 years experience. I trust that my information gets out so that other 2014 Nissan Altima owners become aware of the potential hazardous safety issue.

Routine auto oil change being done and mechanic noticed large crack on right rear control arm. I purchased extended warranty and of course they are denying coverage as vehicle under carriage has surface rust, located in Syracuse NY, so all vehicles have this. We are in process of making the warranty company send an adjuster to prove crack is not rust or corrosion related. Not holding my breath on this outcome. Mechanic had advised they have seen numerous Altimas with same issue. 2013 was mentioned but also appears 2014 vehicles are also impacted. Apparently there is a flaw in the design of this control panel and federal safety should be pushing for a recall before a death happens because of this control arm failure!
