I bought a new 2017 Nissan Altima SR about a month ago and started noticing a whining sound. It is mostly is heard when one does a full stop and the power steering machine winds down. Few weeks later there is a wind-up noise too when you start accelerating, but it is less noticeable because of the engine sound competes with it. I am afraid that the noise increases as time goes on. I went to the dealer where I bought the car and service said that it is normal for it to whine. %#W^%$! I hope Nissan takes responsibility for this and does a recall.

Altima SR 2.5L

I recently bought a 2017 Altima SR and notice a whining noise. I definitely hear the noise when I lift the hood. It sounds like a dentist drill and gets louder when you turn the steering wheel. When my wife pulls out of the driveway (with the hood down), I certainly hear it too. When I drive the car, I hear it slightly. It is more noticeable after coming to a full stop (with the steering wheel straight) as the power steering machine winds down. So when driving on roads with a lot of stop signs, I hear it wind down often. Annoying.
