CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.

The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

The airbag warning light came on. The vehicle is registered in a state that uses heavy amounts of salt on the roads in winter. Nissan had a recall campaign for this exact thing that they closed. Now, they refuse to diagnose or repair the issue and expect me to pay for it completely. They refuse to fix a problem they already admitted was their fault due to the fact they thought everyone should have gotten it fixed already. However, the vehicle is new to me and only started having the problem this winter.

Takata recall, the airbag faulty light is flashing in the dash of the car even though the repair was preformed at Nissan for the recall. Flashing allways in park or moving.

The fuel gauge goes to empty even when the tank is at least half full; it does same when vehicle is standing idle for a short while too. Airbag dash warning light flashing. There are recalls for both these issues, but Nissan claims my VIN is not included. The date assigned to the "when did this happen" is an approximation.

On a fm road, doing approximately 60 mph. Frontal impact with a guard rail, went over rail, hit tree. Air bags did not deploy. Driver hit steering wheel upon impact with guardrail, hit windshield with head when vehicle struck tree. (not wearing seat belt at time of impact.) vehicle has been declared a total loss. We believe the issue is, the airbag sensors.

The front passenger seat airbag sensor that detects if there is a passenger present has been malfunctioning. While driving the sensor in the seat will randomly turn the airbag on and off, whether or not there is a passenger present. The huge safety issue is that a passenger may actually be present and sensor will not turn the airbag "on" and in case of an accident, the airbag will not be deployed. And also the passenger airbag could be deployed when it shouldn't be, meaning there is no passenger present, leading to higher repair costs. A friend of mine said his 08 Nissan Altima had a recall for the exact same issue. This is a serious safety issue that should be investigated immediately.

Our airbag light stays on constantly and, now the driver's seat belt light stays on. Since, this is a safety issue, this is still a manufacturer's problem and should be reviewed by a local dealer. With the current issues in the media about the airbags, this should be cared for.

It has same problems as all the 02-08 Xterras but you wont issue recalls on fuel sensor, radiator leaking into tranny, air bag sensors, control arm. Thanks for letting loyal Nissan owners down!!!!

The airbag lite began flashing on the dashboard. Took vehicle to the dealership and the only fix action was to begin replacing parts that Nissan recommended until it was fixed. No exact fix was given only the following: Visually check wiring harness for connection and damage. All ok. Next step in procedure is to replace driver's airbag module. Subsequent procedures are to replace spiral cable, then diagnostic unit, and related harness. These are all costly steps and the parts being replaced may not be bad. The dealership couldn't determine exactly which portion was failing. In conclusion: The fix action was being replacing parts (extremely costly) until the problem is fixed. Computer code: B1054 (driver airbag module open).
