CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

abs and/or brake light on

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry SE (V6), automatic sedan. Since purchasing my Camry I have had nothing but problems. It was a dealership demo with approximately 11,000 miles on it when purchased. This was the very first Toyota. At the time I thought I was purchasing a high quality, reliable vehicle... I was proven wrong and I will never purchase another Toyota (Lexus / Sion) product ever again! In addition to a long list of other issues I've had with my Camry, I am not having the same issues as another post on this site - what is described is exactly what is going on with my Camry so I am copy parts of the other person's post -

My vehicle is having intermittent erratic problems with the instrument control panel: The ABS and emergency brake lights come on. The tachometer & speedometer gauges bounce up and down, the thermometer changes the temperature read out from a number to "E" and the light showing I am in "D" - Drive turns off.

When the car is having an episode with the instrument control panel my AC stops working! The events last for a few seconds to ten minutes, episodes occur sporadically and the car continues to drive normally during the events even though I have no clue what speed I am going! Per the other person's post it is a very serious problem, one that can cause your brakes to lock up!!! Myself or anyone else driving a Camry with the same issues is basically driving a ticking time bomb!!! I have previously contacted Toyota Corp for another major issue I was having.

Toyota only offered me $400.00 toward the $2,500 repair! I have already put thousands of dollars into the vehicle! I take care of my Camry - ALL maintenance and necessary repairs have been completed! ALL ignition coils on all 6 cylinders have had to be replaced, one of my other computers went out, multiple O2 sensors have gone bad, my list goes on and on! Toyota Corp is a greedy, heartless company. They are a company that refuses to take responsibility for the terrible quality of the vehicles manufactured in the past 7 - 8 years!

ABS light comes on, BRAKE light comes on...all gauges on instrument panel either jump on and off, or just flat line and stay off. When they do flat line, the AC goes off too. This has been happening for a few weeks now. Toyota dealer says they have never heard of this particular problem...and yet dozens of complaints about this very thing are all over the internet. Very annoying to say the least, especially when AC is out in 90+ degree weather. And, if the brakes are indeed affected...could be very dangerous.

I have 2007 V6 Toyota Camry. All of a sudden it started having electrical dashboard issues. Brake and ABS lights come on while the tachometer bounce up and down uncontrollably and the speedometer drops to zero while driving. The gear lights on dashboard turn off and everything comes back to normal and goes back again... This is happening more frequently. AC does not work during this time. It will correct itself for a few minutes and then start acting up again. Looks like this is common issue with Camry 2007 models, lots complaints, forums reporting this online, but when called up Toyota Care, they pretend as if they are hearing this problem for the first time. Service center guys estimated around $2K-3K yet no guaranteeing to fix the issues. They should recall these faulty parts.

Went to dealer because abs and brake light stay on and speedometer doesn't work, rpm jumps up and down when driving. Told me it was brake actuator, this part should not be failing. Quoted me 2300... Hopefully Toyota will cover this part because it is defective.

My speedometer stopped working and the RMP meter started going out of motion, my brake light came on as well as my ABS light...this was scary.I carefully drove home slow, park my car and read my car manual. It told me to take my car back to the dealer. Thankfully the next morning I drove to the Toyata Dealer about 45 minutes away and the cost of my car repair was very expensive. I was told by a Technician at Albany Toyota that its rare to have this part replaced. I think the Toyota Company needs to reimburse my money.

2007 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to instrument panel and ABS system computer problems. The consumer stated the speedometer went to zero, then went back to normal speed for ten minutes, and then went back to zero for several minutes. The temperature gauge went to zero, then registered current engine temperature, and went to zero again for several minutes. The next morning, cd player stopped working and issues with the speedometer and engine temperature resumed again, also the fuel gauge goes from half full to empty back to half full.

The vehicle was inspected by his current mechanic, where it was determined the ABS computer was no longer working and thus could no longer communicate with the other 4 computers in the vehicle. The dealer informed the consumer it would cost $2,495 plus labor. I was informed by my current mechanic to not drive the freeways but to just stay on the surface streets today. Its fuel gauge was sweeping back and forth between half full and empty back to half full so for the time being it's staying parked right where it is.

Camry XLE V6

I've read dozens of the same BUT TOYOTA DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT...MY LAWYER IS WORKING ON IT!

My 17 year old daughter has driven on the highway & the car just stalled after the cluster acted up!

The brake and ABS light get lit and speedometer stops working, odometer is jumping up and down and heat needle is intermittently going normal/cold, then the ac blows hot then 3 times it just stalled.....The mileage meter is not working and this all goes away when those lights either reset on their own or some other way not known to me how. While driving not knowing how fast as well as stalling is VERY dangerous and Toyota is not doing what they should do and announce recall because there are large number of people complaining about this issue and have problem with the same exact issue!! A Toyota service dept told us it's the cluster that's bad, but another mechanic said that's definitely not it, although they can't pinpoint it.

If Toyota does not fix this problem NOW it will eventually cause casualties all over country like other similar problems with Toyota Camry's happened in the past. OUR LIVES SHOULD BE WORTH MORE THAN TOYOTA'S BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!!

I won't allow my daughter to drive this $12000 piece of crap now...THANKS FOR NOTHING TOYOTA!!!!!

Camry LE V6

  • Automatic transmission

ABS AND Brake light intermittently come on. When this happens the speedometer stops working and the a/c starts to blow warm air. This can happen doing 45 mph or with the car idling. When it happens it can stay that way for 10 seconds or as long as 5 minutes. I have spent over $700 between a couple mechanics and my local Toyota Dealership and the problem still has not been rectified. I took it to my local St. Thomas, VI Toyota Dealership and they charged me $320 to change the diagnose that one ABS sensor needed to be replaced and another was incorrectly connected. They replaced the ABS sensor and connected the other correctly, however I still have the problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would like get the problem rectified.
