CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

When at a stop and when I go to take off car rolls backward. This car has a automatic trans, but act like a stick trans, I bought this car new off lot. And first brakes keep locking up like something is in it. But if I roll backward it disengages. I've taken it to the dealer a couple of times due to this issue and they also heard it but never could find anything. I really like this car but it falling apart from day one.. I keep it serviced like I am suppose to.

The vehicle has no open recalls, and the recall addressing the brake pressure, (micro switch problem) has been completed. On occasions including this morning, when the vehicle sits overnight, there seems to be a loss of brake pressure, that is you can press the brake pedal all the way down with significant pressure, and the vehicle barely stops. I first noticed it backing out of the driveway, and coming to the first stop sign at the end of our side street. Once the vehicle has been running for a short period of time, and after at least one attempted stop, the pressure goes to normal. Now that I am aware of the potential of this happening, I noticed even with the car is stationary before backing out, the brake pressure is low. Researching the problem it seems like I am not the only one having this experience.

The check engine light came on in the vehicle. I took it to the dealership where it was purchased to get it inspected and have the code read. They said that the code was due to the brake pedal position sensor and it needed to be repaired for approximately $500. The vehicle was just barely out of warranty when this problem occurred. Many times, with the engine running and in the idle state with the brake down, the engine will lurch forward as if it had a jolt of energy. This happens intermittently and on different elevations and locations while the car is stopped. It worries me that the car will lurch forward while stopped and hit the car in front of me, which is why it is a safety concern. I feel as thought the manufacturer should be responsible for the costs to repair this brake sensor and it should be considered a recall on the vehicle. I have read of many other customers with the same issue on the vehicle model and year.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. While attempting to engage the brake pedal, the brakes failed to respond and extended to the floorboard several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was not able to replicate or diagnose the failure. The contact had to pump the brakes to get the brake pedal to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who replaced the brake booster vacuum pipe. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13V360000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,136. Updated 09/10/15

The recall (GM recall # 12213) was performed on April 30, 2014. Since this date, the brakes come on no matter what speed you're going. All of the brake lights come on, even when foot is on the accelerator and the car will slowly start to slow down. It also causes the cruise control to disengage and the car to slow down. Safety notice #14417 coolant levels low I have taken my Cruze in to the dealership on the following dates: 8/14/2013, 4/30/2014, 5/6/2014, and 11/7/2014. Each time I was told the car was fine. I am adding a half a gallon of anti-freeze every 2-3 weeks. The service report from 4/30/2014 says they found a faulty pump leaking out coolant and it was replaced. Then why is coolant still leaking? last, but certainly not least, check engine light, code PO240. The dealership keeps telling me it is the catalytic converter and it is not. There is no loss of power and no rotting egg smell. So instead of changing parts under warranty that come up with the code, they checked 2 items for the 4 time each (which have been fixed) and they checked the parts I changed myself but they never changed the O2 sensors which are the probable issue. They reset the code to see if the light came back on. It did. When I returned 6 days later, my warranty mileage was past by 677 miles and instead of calling it a continuation from the previous visit where the problem was diagnosed, they started a new work order and immediately wanted to change the catalytic converter. I had on-star at the time. Diagnostics of March 2014 showed no issues. After the work done in April 2014, the diagnostic came back with an issue with the exhaust system (code PO240). I have heard what people have said about this dealership but I rarely listen to gossip. Apparently, it's all true. They just want to fix the expensive parts and will make them break down so you bring it back.

Three weeks ago, I started hearing a noise from the back left tire. Two days ago the esp and traction light went on as well as the brake fluid light. Everything just started hitting at the same time. I think the car is rigged to have everything go bad once the warranty period is up. Would like to know if this is covered since so many people are having problems with it. I can't afford to fix it but this is my only means of transportation.

I had noticed that my brakes were soft when stopping prior to this incident but had no success in determining the cause. Two times now, I was backing out of a parking spot and the car would not stop for at least 3-5 seconds after I applied complete pressure to the brakes. Fortunately, I had plenty of room behind me and there was no oncoming traffic either time. The brakes are still soft on stopping while in drive.

2011 Chevy Cruze after recall # 12213 for brake vacuum micro switch has been completed. The vehicle is displaying the exact same symptoms as before the recall work was done. Under cold start up conditions (car sitting overt night) the brake petal is difficult to depress so brakes do not stop car easily. This is intermittent. I have discovered if you places the car in neutral while this is happening the brakes start working correctly. Sounds like a design issue to me. The dealer wants to replace the part that the recalled micro switch goes into. This will include another switch. This part (#13457666) appears to be the valve that the micro switch opens and closes as needed to provide the needed vacuum. Again, this seems related to the original issue.
