NHTSA campaign # 02V178000: My 2000, K1500, Chevrolet Suburban was hit head on by a speeding 2003 Hyundai tiburon GT. Both vehicles suffered significant damage and had to be towed away. The bumper and grill were pushed back into the radiator and oil cooler of the Suburban. The bumper folder into a V shape at the license plate. No air bags on the Suburban deployed. The Hyundai air bags deployed. I have been told by connell Chevrolet that the referenced recall did not apply to my Suburban.
The consumer stated when the brakes were applied, the ABS activated. The dealer found the left front speed sensor dropped out at 8 mph, the left front hub bearing was replaced. Also, the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard, the dealer found the air bag opened and ordered a driver side air bag.
The consumer was hit from behind by a pick up which was traveling about 55 mph, upon impact the vehicle went 118 feet through a fence, the second third row seats collapsed as they were pushed forward after impact, the passenger seat came off the track completely, the driver and passenger seats also collapsed during impact and the air bags failed to deploy, driver and passenger sustained back and neck injuries.
