CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2005 Explorer has a very well-established record of expensive transmission failure at under 100k miles. The Explorer has an enclosed transmission which is typically replaced with a rebuilt transmission at a cost of almost $3,000.

Adding insult to injury, the 2002-2005 Explorer also has a massive problem with the rear panel cracking. While it's a minor annoyance compared to transmission failure, ironically the crack usually goes right through the Ford logo.

Explorer V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I was hit in the front drivers side bumper and the other car slid down my Explorer and pushed me over an embankment. My explorer flipped and landed directly on it's front end and the seatbelts didn't lock and the air bags didn't deploy. I hit my head on the rearview mirror. I had two other people with me who was also hurt badly. We all three are having very bad back problems. no one wants to take our case. We live in a town of a population of about 1,000 people and we found two other people with 2005 Fords that the air bags did not deploy and both of them where hit head on. We have to do something. We could have been killed and so could the other people. what's up Ford???

please if anyone else has had this happen post it and we will do something to take a stand....
