CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford changed a lot of things for its 3rd generation, just none of them were a good idea.

The transmission tends to hesitate and jerk when accelerating. The new electronically-driven power steering can fail suddenly and without warning. Even Ford's SYNC can be a headache. Actually, scratch that last one — it's always been a headache.

The transmission modular fails to shift properly. The transmission lags and shifts roughly, often jerking and grinding in 1st and 2nd gear. This makes the car extremely dangerous, especially when taking off out into traffic. I have almost been hit multiple times because of the transmission failing to shift properly. Ford has offered no solution. Ford dealership also will not take responsibility. They have turned me away multiple types denying the issue. I have been stuck paying for this lemon every month for the past 5 yrs. Come to find out Ford has a long history ignoring safety issues and ignoring recalls when needed. They should be held reasonable under their strict product liability and reimburse owners. I would NEVER purchase another Ford in my life or recommend their shady company to anyone. Time for transparency Ford!

This car has been the biggest waste of money I have EVER spent. I have had to get the recall fixed twice with the transmission. The last time I had it fixed they told me if it did it again they would replace the transmission. Well they neglected to inform me that this had to be done under 100,000 miles. So I took it in to get fixed for the third time and they informed me that they could not fix it because it was not under the recall warranty anymore. This is very frustrating because now I'm attempted to sell a car that is messed up and I owe double what its worth. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. ITS A PIECE OF SH*T. I will NEVER buy a Ford again. I should have kept my Civic. END RANT.

SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BACK IN 2013, IT HAS BEEN A PAIN IN MY BUTT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND THEY KEPT TELLING ME IT WAS NOTHING AND THAT THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING IS HOW THE NEW TRANSMISSION WORKED WITH THE DOUBLE CLUTCH. I HAVE ALL PAPER WORK FROM WHEN I TOOK IT IN .I HAVE TRIED TO TRADE IT IN AND ALL I HEAR IS WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT THE CAR IS AND ALL I CAN DO IS RELATE. THIS CAR IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. A SIMPLE CHEAP CAR. I HAVE FALLEN BEHIND ON CAR PAYMENTS SO I CAN TRY TO GET IT TO SHOP.

I am pissed that I worked so hard to buy my first used vehicle. I purchased the car in July of 2014 and before I can make my first payment I was already back to Deluca getting it "fixed". I was placed in a rental and a week later was told to pick up my car, it was "fixed". Well needless to say I felt the grinding under my pedals and when I would shift into drive, so AGAIN back to the shop.I forgot to mention they claimed to have put in new clutches. Again in a rental!

Long story short the third time i took it in after 3 days they call me to tell me they have sent it to Ford I should go to the Ford dealership to procure a rental from them! All this trouble before I could even make my third payment! To top it off one night after dinner my kids come running into my room to tell me that there is a guy and a lady in my driveway and they have my car on the hook of a tow truck. When I go out to find out what the hell was going on they began to tell me that Campus USA had them pick up the car for non payment! I showed them my receipts, called DeLuca, called Campus and Campus said they couldn't do anything about it!

To make things worse the "Tow company" never had legal documentation, just a blank sheet with my name written on it and and old address. Now if I just bought this car then they should some type of legal document and proof for the repo. Needless to say they didn't and Campus gave me the runaround! This was the worst experience in buying my first car.

Had it almost two years before it became annoying. It has been in for service three times. The problem continues although not as bad. Retained a Lemon Law attorney after third time, awaiting outcome.

I bought this car with roughly 24,000 miles on it and took it back in under a week and complained about the transmission. They sent it over to the Ford for repair. Got it back after they updated it and drove it for about a week or two and noticed it was not fixed, it was actually worse.

Took it back to the dealer and it went back to the Ford house for a clutch to be replaced. That was fixed they said so I picked it up once again. After a couple of weeks noticed it was much worse so I took it to the Ford house myself. They kept it a couple of days and said they updated it once again. Shortly i realized it was getting worse again so I took it back they kept it for almost a week with their mechanic driving it all over for the place and called me to pick it back up they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I picked it up and drove it again for weeks with the irritating shutter, hesitation, and feeling like it would die any minute.

After keeping it for over a month the hill assist would come on by itself without me activating it even on flat roads. I would turn it off repeatedly, and continue to drive it. Then it completely threw itself out of gear up a hill and I almost was hit by two cars up a hill. I couldn't get it to go into any gear, and felt helpless in what to do. Finally, I let it roll gently backwards until I felt like the car was on a level surface, but it still wouldn't register any gears, I turned it off and back on (out of gear) and it then went into drive.

I called the Ford dealer I had been taking it to and took it to them immediately. They replaced the PCM and said it was fixed again. I have the car back for under a month and it still feels very sluggish, shifts rough most of the time, and feels terrible to drive. I only have 56,000 miles on the car now and I absolutely hate this car, it is literally the worst car I have ever purchased.

I had the car purchase as a gift on Mothers Day, May of 2013, only 11 miles on the car. For me and it has been a nightmare since. I was told I didn't know how to drive a standard shift (automatic) car. Then told there is a recall for the car. Have had the car back and forth to 2 different dealers. On my 3rd clutch and I'm still not happy. I've never had a new car in my life. Just thought this is a once in a life time not to have car issues but here I am and I'm not happy one bit. I don't want the headache anymore or the idea of sitting in the dealership waiting for them to keep fixing the same problem over and over again. Why oh why must I keep this up.

My 2013 Ford Focus sounds like it is going to break down. It stalls and shakes. It sounds like the transmission is grinding metal. I was told that these sounds were "normal" and that because "Ford used a manual trans but programmed it to be a automatic trans it will make theses noises and have these delays and shakes(Ford Service Department, 2013)." I was also told that the car will "adjust to my driving style and the noises will stop. That's BS. My car is an embarrassment and it is extremely frustrating.

This transmission is rough shifting and an annoying chatter occurs when shifting is done........we believe that this car does NOT need the 6 spd. transmission to operate the car smoothly and efficiently. Our personal opinion is that the engineers who designed this auto, should be required to drive it for 3 months before it is put on the market for sale. I have a feeling they would have been unhappy with this design......instead, such engineers are probably driving a top of the line Ford or Lincoln product as they are all above driving something as humble as a Focus. We have a friend who owned an older Focus without the 6 spd. tranny (might have been a 4 spd.)and he said it ran very smoothly and efficiently. A lesson here, Ford Motor Company......if it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.

My wife has a 2014 Focus and it drives beautiful. Mine drives like it is much older than it is. A fun car to drive when right, but now the transmission sounds like it is going to fall out of the car in pieces. I really hope Ford can figure this out. The newer body style is a home run but it needs a power train to match.
