CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.

Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

This car is the worst I have driven in my entire life. Transmission issues, transmission control module issues. Multiple recalls. I wish I had never bought it. One thing I know for sure, I would never buy a Ford car ever again.

I own a 2014 Ford Focus. I took this car to the Ford dealership back in October, when I told them I was having problems with the shifting and and jerking when it is going into gear. They insure me that it was all of my brakes, suspensions and everything in the front of the car that needed to be replaced. I paid almost $2,500 for this repair to be done with no resolution. I then took it back and they said they put a transmission clutch inside of it, which I did, but was still having the issue again. I didn't return to the Ford dealership in November when they say they have replaced the transmission in the vehicle, and yet I still have the shifting and the jerking when the car is backing in gear.

It is my belief that I paid Ford $2,500 for brakes pads rotors suspensions Axel's and everything that I did not need for this vehicle. And I have a complete lemon for a car right now. My 2005 Honda Odyssey still runs better than this and all I've had to ever do to that car is put an oil change in it. I really need my money reimbursed to me from Ford, because I have been duped.

Worst car I have ever owned. I bought my car when it had 40K miles in 2016. About two weeks after I got it, it started overheating. That was covered under the warranty. About a year later, the transmission started having problems shifting. I spent about $1,500 getting that fixed. About six months later the same problem came back. I found this page and all the complaints. Also, I learned that no mechanic will touch it because the tranny is so complicated. I called Ford and they said since it was out of warranty, I was stuck with the car. I let the car go. This car should come with a warning! I have made it my mission in life to tell people to avoid this car. I later met several owners who had complained of the same issue.

Thought it was just the norm, but has gradually got worse and now warranty is out. Hope it doesn't wreck the auto box.

Transmission feels like its slipping. I was told two things:

I have not ran it long enough for the new clutches to adapt. (bs, I expect a car to run correctly)

I should drive it really hard.

I do have an inspection pending , but I had to press for it.

Focus ST 3.2L

Brought the car back immediately after purchasing to find out more truth on the SHUDDER problem while driving.

There was a recall that was not mentioned or that I was notified of but the dealer fixed the problem. Then they fixed it two more times so a total of 3 times the same issue. The part was continuously recalled so they said.

Then I brought it to another dealer who went above and beyond to get a proper read via computer but the # was not high enough for Ford to replace the transmission module clutch again.

This is beyond frustrating because people I have in my car say this is wrong. It is an automatic but acts like a manual. I also drive a stick and never have I bucked and shuttered the way this car does.

Just REALLY REALLY UNHAPPY with the purchase and the dealer for not disclosing.

From the time I bought the 2014 Focus, the shifting(jerking) has been terrible. Bringing it back to the Dealer a

few times the answer was that this particular vehicle had a PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission and

nothing could be done about it.

2014 Ford Focus Bad bad news.. several recalls on the bad dual clutch total nightmare. stay clear. Ford will not authorize anymore of there recalls $$$$ so much to fix.100,000 affected. buy a Ford they said. great on gas they said. yeah right

Update from Jun 24, 2017: June 20,2017 my Ford Focus sat on the Brooksville Ford Nation Car lot for 3 days, no work was done to my transmission because it wasn't slipping enough. reading the claim invoice my slip was 28 and ford wanted a 31 slippage. and yes the car is still shuddering and losing power. I waited 4 hours for them to pick me up, when I returned to the dealer I was greeted with an unrepaired recall and a cracked windshield. and no one took responsibility for the windshield. welcome to Ford ...

Immediately (within one month) of buying the car I noticed that if you stopped or slowed down and then sped up the car would jerk hard and sometimes not go. As summer approached using the a/c definitely made the problem worse. Took into the dealer who advised me a recall was coming and they attempted to repair. Didnt work. So I took it back and they tried - didnt work. And yet again - didnt work. Have had the car about 1 1/2 years now and about a month ago it almost made me wreck. Had approached a traffic light on busy street (a/c on) and the light changed before i stopped. When I stepped on the gas, the engine sped up and the car jerked hard to the right and I almost hit a car. Spoke to the dealer about trading the car and made appointment for Sept 1, 2016. But on the night of Aug 31, 2016 while on my way home a car was partially in my lane stopped so I slowed down and almost immediately I saw a cat run across from in front of that car so when I sped up - the car accelerated and jerked me into a curb and crashed into a bus seat. Over 7000 in damage and out of my pocket except for what insurance covers. Really afraid to drive that car again. Not sure if Ford is going to do anything to help. Called the dealer and have an appointment to trade car when it is repaired. Has been in shop almost a month.
