CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.

Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started to shake, after which the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 5 MPH. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission control module. The TCM was replaced, but the dealer was unable to program the TCM. The dealer diagnosed an additional failure with the dual clutch. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the engine revved significantly, and the vehicle experienced hard shifts. The contact stated that the vehicle shifted from 1st gear to 3rd gear, and from 3rd gear to 5th gear. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. The power train warning light and the message "Transmission Overheating - Puller Over As Soon As Possible When Safe" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission actuator motor B was replaced; however, the failure recurred within an hour of driving the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle was shuddering. The contact pulled into a parking lot, turned off and restarted the vehicle several times. The contact then drove to the residence. Upon restarting the vehicle, the power train warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown TCM recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The contact stated while at a stop light the when the contact accelerated the vehicle launched forward and the check engine warning light illuminated and started jerking. After the vehicle accelerated in speed the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer that stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed but that the transmission maybe failing. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. I was driving home from work and the transmission just stopped shifting completely and I almost was Tboned in the street because of this my husband had to push the car out of the road so i contacted the ford dealer here because there was a recall on my transmission for that very thing and they said that they dont have to fix it unless i pay for it because it has 160,000 miles on it nevermind the fact that i just got the car less than 3 months ago. I am really upset and considering calling the media in an my attorney

The vehicle was taken to the muffle shop where the diagnostic produced a code indicating that the catalytic converter was faulty however, the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve, clutch assembly, second lever assembly tube, and cylinder assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,581.

The contact stated that while her husband was driving on the highway approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power and was shuddering while shifting gear. The -€œService Engine Now-€ warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to side of the roadway, turn off, and restart the vehicle and drove to the residence safely. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Additionally, there was also an unstated failure with the engine.
