CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Ford Focus & its "Powershift" transmission has a defect trend where the car shudders when accelerating, especially when starting uphill.
Most owners have reported their Ford Focus remains driveable while the vehicle is still at low mileage, but the shuddering is annoying & unpleasant & may reduce the resale value of the vehicle.
However, owners of higher-mileage vehicles from earlier 3rd generation Focus model years report transmission failure & a host of other major & expensive transmission-related problems. Potential buyers beware.

The vehicle shuts down, while coming to a stop. The message in the window reads, put the car in park in restart the vehicle. This has happened on four occasions. Most recently three weeks after servicing for the same problem. On this most recent occasion, Sunday, March 31st., I stopped to put the car in reverse to park and begin to move the vehicle shut down. I was in front of my home parking.
Ive had several occasions where I have my keys in my purse never opened the hatch in the back went inside a store came back out to my hatchback door open this is very concerning to me I do have my sons baseball equipment and my speakers in which one got stolen I need to know if anything is going to be done soon so I know what my next steps are going to be.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. When the vehicle was started, the fuel mileage displayed 50 miles when the tank was halfway filled. The contact also mentioned that the speedometer and fuel gauge needles were rapidly fluctuating. Also, while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact turned the vehicle off and heard an abnormal ticking noise when the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The transmission clutch sticks and if not repaired car will stop running; car dealer stated it will be over $2200 to be remedied. This happens on the roadway while driving: Car hesitated before going into gear. Even when I'm motion it will back down and slow up. The ignition over years and needs to cool down before the car restarts.
Driving to work all instrument lights came on, RPM and speedometer dropped to 0, milage turned to -----, followed by message steering assist failure, followed by transmission failure service now message, I pulled over to the side of the road. Turned off the engine to see if messages would clear. Would not restart, not in park message came on. I disconnected the battery to try to reset the car, car started and allowed me to shift into park, but would not shift into drive. I turned off the car and disconnected the battery a second time. Started the car put it into drive the car moved all instrument lights except the engine light went off. Drove the car to the dealer. The dealer found the following codes U1013:00:68 & U0101:00:68 replaced the tcm all codes were cleared. They road tested it to verify it was fine. A week later this all happened again, except I was stopped. I turned off the car, it would not start a new message ignition failure came on. I had to have the car towed to the dealer where it has been for 2 days. No update as to what is wrong.
I have a 2016 Ford Focus hatchback every time when it rains hard or when I have the car washed water is getting into the wiring underneath the taillights shorting out the wiring I smelling burnt wiring the left taillight is out, the right brake light stays on, the right rear red turn signal is out, the left front side running light is out, the right front side turn signal is out. This car is a 100% lemon!
Ford Focus 2016 is transmission is still experiencing problems as previous Ford models in category, including engine slips, shuddering, stalling and not changing gears properly, create hazards, im constantly battling to drive this vehicle, and it doesn't even have more than 20,000 miles on it, I have almost been in a numerous amount of recks on the highway, or even leaving my house because of this car, I constantly fear for my safety within this vehicle, and I know its a matter of time before something happens, im stuck in this vehicle and nobody has the answers. Today for example I was leaving my house I stoped at a stop sign to take a left it was morning traffic, I take a turn in an appropriate manner, but the rpms jump to 4 almost 5, and the car starts to violently shake and it stalls briefly in the middle of both lanes and makes a shuddering noise as I accelerate more to get out of the way, it shakes more and jumps forward in a jerking motion, I was almost hit by a car!! this car has a clean record, no recks or anything and properly taken care of!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle hesitated without warning. The vehicle was taken to roundtree moore Ford (2588 w us hwy 90, lake city, fl), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Wiper blades stopping in line of sight during rain and snow conditions car has been taken to dealer multiple times and not being fixed. Has replaced windshield and motors and still occurring. Video showing problem not being taken seriously and tired of ricart not fixing
Sometime while accelerating the car will randomly go from 2K RPM to over 6K RPM but you cant here the engine and it loses power and starts to jerk violently. Once you release gas and the RPM's go back down to 2K then you can try to accelerate again. I thought this issue was just because it was cold the 1st time it happened but now it is happening more frequently. I've only had this car for little under a year and it has less then 20K miles on it.
From a stop, when pressing the gas pedal the transmission starts shuddering and excessive vibration that shakes the whole car, also will not pickup speed so pulling out into traffic is dangerous, this car is dangerous to drive. My wife refuses to drive this car. 2016 Ford Focus SE with only15000 miles on it.....please help
Just filled my gas tank up then as I left the gas station got about 1 mile up the road then while sitting at a stoplight I turned the ac on and idle dipped, car felt like it was going to die(which it did) then as I tried to re-start, cel came on and car would not start. About 2 more times and it fired up along with a service engine soon message... luckily for me I was a block away from future Ford Lincoln where I originally purchased the vehicle. 3 days later I got a call saying my vehicle was ready for pick up. I get there and they tell me that the reason was due to I had a aftermarket power wire routed over engine assembly causing electrical interference. So they disconnected what I payed a local professional audio shop $140 to install 2 days after I got the car. So, long story short, I get in the vehicle only to see that my fill up @ the gas station was gone... they used [xxx] near 3/4 of my tank of gas put over 100 miles on my car and I get 2 blocks away from the dealer and at the same light..... **** happens again!!!! took it right back to the dealer. Just got my car back after 13 days in the shop and I couldn't be more pissed! 4th time I have gone to pick it up after hearing that they fixed the problem only to get in the car, drive it, and have it happen yet another time! they even tried to tell me it was my right front axle causing the problem this time around. ( I just had the left front axle replaced 2 months back at another dealer) throwing grease on a crank sensor causing my cel with dtc "P0106, P0236, P0340, P0344, P0365, P051B, P0532, P06A7, P08A9, P08B9"...bla bla bla... they don't know what the problem is but they keep wanting to tell me they found the problem! what a waist of both our time. Now the car is in my driveway, wont start, throwing about 8 to 12 codes and im waiting to hear from Ford customer care. Our Ford Focus stalled and could not restart. The car was able to start up with no problem, run for a few minutes but stalled when driving. The battery light came on and the engine would not turn over when attempting to restart the car. Car had been driven the day before for well over an hour without issue. No error code is returned to the technician when runs a diagnostic on the vehicle.
Rodents ate through wiring effecting emission cable (located at rear of vehicle--just below gas tank)--this had to be replaced costing approx $500.--parts totaled only $15. Labor costs totally ridiculous--
Vehicle experiencing transmission shutter relating to service bulletin 16-0109. Progressively getting worst and I am scared it will cause an accident. Took vehicle in 3 times for the same issue. Also issues with display and phone unable to hang up during calls while using displays button and steering button.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact noticed that the headlights on the vehicle did not illuminate bright enough. The dealer stated that they could not remedy the headlight failure. The failure mileage was 188. Updated 06/28/17
Rodents chewed through wiring because the wire is made from soybeans. Potential fire hazard. Makes car inoperable. This is a known problem for several years prior to 2016. Manufacturer should have fixed this problem by substituting wiring that does not attract rodents. Manufacturer (Ford) should make this right. The cost of repairs should not be borne by customers.
