2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving, the steering wheel seized without warning and "power steering default" appeared. When the contact shifted into neutral, powered off the engine, and restarted the engine, the vehicle was able to drive normally. The failure recurred numerous times. Each time, the contact had to power off and restart the engine in order for the vehicle to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to autonation Hyundai tempe (8050 S autoplex loop, tempe, AZ 85284, (480) 505-4247) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 78,600.
Warning light appeared 3 days ago to service power steering. Within a couple of hours the power steering quit working - almost could not get it parked in my driveway.dealer brought out computer got the steering unlocked, said to add some transmission fluid which we did. That was 2 days ago, the steering started acting up again and by the time we got home, it was locked up again. Got some transmission fluid but was unable to unlock the steering. It did look like some fluid had been leaking on the pavement. But this is a tremendous safety hazard - there was no warning between the message saying to service it and within minutes the power steering locked up and it took a lot of strength to get it home. Fortunatley, both times we were close to home and not on a freeway somewhere. The first time the car lot we purchased it from came out with a small computer and got it to working again, said to add some transmission fluid because the two worked together. We did that - worked only 2 days and steering went out today. It is my granddaughters car and she nor I really have the money to fix it or get a new one and she is expecting a baby.
Driving on the freeway and the power steering stops almost caused an accident. I pull over turn the car off and restart it and it works fine for about 2 minutes and then it stops working again. It says 'power steering assist fault '. I looked it up and over 263,000 models have been reported and over 2,200 complaints. There needs to be a recall before someone gets into a accident and gets seriously hurt.
My 2010 Ford Fusion lost all electronic power steering while driving 45 on the highway with my 12 yr old and 1 month old in the vehicle. While driving my steering seized up and I had to use all extra force to turn off the highway. Thank god traffic was easy and I was able to get off the road. The dash board lights came on saying tire pressure low, service power steering and advanced trac warning. Many complaints have been made about the 2010 Ford Fusion. However a recall has only been issued for the 2011-2012 model for the same exact issue that many people are having with the 2010 as well. This is a serious matter. It can be very dangerous not only to us as the drivers but everyone on the road. Very unsafe! hopefully a recall is given for the 2010 models as well, being that it is the same exact issue for a year later and above.
It has happened twice so far where the 'power steering assist fault' light comes on and my car won't turn. The first time I was driving and had to pull off to the side of the road (luckily it didn't end in a bad wreck!) and today it happened while trying to drive my children to their bus stop! this is a serious issue and needs to be recalled before something bad happens!!

My 2010 Ford Fusion with 72231 miles recently lost all power steering when started, shut off and restarted and it came back. Next day it happened again and includes service advance trac warning as well as the steering assist failure warning. It will not correct itself by restarting and is permanently disabled. This is my wife's car whom is 67 years old, 110 lb. And cannot physically drive it. Had this happened to her while driving it would most definitely resulted in a major accident! I am a retired Ford dealership employee and have done a lot of research on the subject and can't believe that NHTSA has not issued a recall notice on the 2010 Fusion but did on 2011 model with exact same component failure and safety issues! my car is undrivable and being disabled I am unable to repair myself or afford paying dealer for repairs that should be resolved due to the safety issues.

Power steering service light came on as well as advancetrac service. Then went to restart car and steering column is locked. Recalls have been made on 2011 and newr but not on 2010 with many reported issues.
The power steering assist failure engages and I cannot steer my car steering just fails! cannot turn steering wheel at all while traveling at 40 mph could have resulted in a horrible accident I was unsuccessful at getting off the road but turned the car off and restarted it it was ok for a bit however after researching several 2010 owners have the same problem and only recalls were issued for 2011 owners its costs $1800 to repair at dealership I am afraid to drive my car. I literally could not budge the steering wheel. I was not turning a corner at the time I was headed straight, with a curve ahead of me. The car has only 75K miles has always been well taken care of.

Power steering failure while driving 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid on a 65mph highway, coincident with a "service power steering now" message on the dash. Very lucky this was a straight section of road! no prior warning. Recently serviced for air bag recall recently, too. Making matters worse is the exorbitant dealer quote of $2400 to repair by replacing the rack and pinion.
