CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

HELP HELP HELP...my lovely 2008 Honda Accord is losing power, wont go over 20-25 MPH and I am sick of it. I have had it in the shop and when I get it back within a week it does it again. 6 months of the same issue. Does anyone have an solution??? I don't want a second job to pay for a new car.

I bought the car in 2012 with 80k miles. No major issues, normal problems...oil change, tires, fuel pump, battery etc........

But this loss of power situation is driving me crazy.

Accord LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

The car hesitates at pickup. I've tried it at D, D3, D2 etc. and its the same, almost no power in acceleration. It takes about a couple of seconds to get going. Also noticed the other day that when pressing the accelerator in idle, the RPM doesn't go beyond 4500. Is this a issue rampant or am I an odd ball.

Accord LX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

During acceleration onto a busy interstate I found that as I applied the accelerator, the VSA light and another engine light blinked, the rpms elevated, but my speed drastically decreased. I could not accelerate or move faster than 30 mph, then a few minutes later (as I'm avoiding the fast cars) it snapped out of it and proceeded fairly normally. This is the third major incident where I'm left in a lurch during acceleration into traffic. I took it to the dealer who said there were ''no codes'' thus ''no problem.'' This is my second Accord. I loved my first 1988 and drove it 220,000 with no major issues. I bought this car new and have hated it for multiple issues from about 10,000 miles. Being told by service ''there are no brake problems, this is normal wear" (only to receive a recall notice several months later), the lights flickering at night, clicking in the front end ("mam, all front ends click like that") and now this serious issue that does not show up when at Honda is the final straw. I cannot sell this car fast enough. I only hope someone with children (like me) does not buy it.

2008 Honda Accord. nothing but trouble from the get go, transmission. brakes, oil flow to the engine. (new block required thru Honda after proof of how much oil it was losing. Now flashing lights loss of power down to a speed of 15-30 mph, nice on a busy highway. If this car isn't a lemon I can't imagine what would be considered a lemon.

Update from Oct 16, 2012: Should add the dealer service department has tried to help with each problem. The problems never seem to end.

Accord E-XL 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,000 miles

They cleaned out the tube...it still ran rough and poor acceleration. I went back, they looked again, they took a picture to show me that they did not get all the nest out the first time.

It happened again......and then there finally was an acknowledgment of a recall on this tube and they had to put a spring in it to keep open.
