CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

This 2008 Accord was purchased new - we reported issue with excessive oil consumption within the first year. Honda stated it was the spec for this engine - 1 quart every 1000 miles. We brought it back over the next 5 years always complaining about the oil issue. 3 years ago they had us do an oil consumption test and then did something with the on board computer. Nothing changed.

Last year the car started making an odd grinding noise when starting cold - Honda said just keep oil full. 2 months ago we break down and found out the timing chain needed to be replaced, common with this vehicle due to the Oil Consumption issue. We then find out that a recall had been issued to fix the oil consumption, that Honda had finally agreed there was an issue with the engine design and would fix it and at the same time would fix the timing chain.

This vehicle has 150k miles on it and the recall was only good up to 125k miles. So now, after complaining since 2009, and bringing the issue to HONDA since we bought the vehicle, they will not honor the recall. So we fixed the timing chain for $1400 but will continue to have to feed this auto a quart of oil every 750 miles. This was my 4th accord and 6th Honda vehicle owned and it will be our last.. We have been a loyal Honda Customer for many years until now, what a shame to lose us - we are very vocal and will continue to scream from the roof tops. Honda, "You just lost a customer"
