CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

We purchased a new 2008 Honda Accord exl in 2008. It has only 40,000 miles on it and my husband was driving and went to pass and the engine missed and and began to shudder and misfire and almost had a head on because he could not accelerate and had to find a way to get back into line. We took it in and the only thing to fix it was replace the spark plug which we did and car was fine for a few weeks but now it is doing it again. I feel it's a safety issue if in the middle of driving you cannot accelerate the vehicle.

2008 Honda Accord. Consumer writes to inform of several experiences such as sudden acceleration with vehicle the consumer stated all of the incidents happened while trying to slow the vehicle down to a stopped position and have occurred in parking lots, driveways and in traffic. The consumer stated on two of the several occasions, the consumers father experienced sudden acceleration while pulling into a residential driveway and pulling into a parking space. The incidents the consumer experienced happened when she attempted to make a left turn at an intersection, pulling into a parking spot, approaching a stop sign at an intersection as well as driving behind other vehicles which were slowing to stop and trying to exit a parking lot. In all cases, the consumer and her father removed their feet from the accelerator then placed it on the brake to slow to a stop. However, while applying the brakes, there was a sound and motion of the vehicle revving up and accelerating, propelling the vehicle forward as if it were fighting the brake pedals command stop. So far the consumer has been able to control the vehicle.

When braking again while entering into the ramp, the RPM get down back to about 1.5, and the engine is idle back to normal. It happen every time while trying to slow down the car at about 55-65 mph to get in the exit.

R/H front door rattles 9. a banging in the trunk over moderate bumps or railroad tracks [there is nothing in there] 10. Squeaking and sometimes grinding brakes 11. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving 20 mph, the engine revved. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence, but the engine "raced" the entire time. A few days later, the contact's wife started the vehicle and lightly tapped the accelerator pedal. The vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration, causing the vehicle to crash straight into a home across the street. The brake pedal was depressed, but they failed to work properly. The vehicle had not been moved since the day of the first incident. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but they did not explain what caused the failure or defect. The current and failure mileages were 1,600. Updated 07/15/08. The dealer stated the computer did not show any defects and the brakes were not applied. Updated 07/15/08
