CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.

For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.

Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2014 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

When service noticed what was causing the problem, I asked him to make the problem available to the general public. I don't think he thought it was not that important.

Update from Mar 29, 2015: I had delayed acceleration after a slow rolling stop or taking off from a dead stop.

Accord

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,000 miles

Hesitation (unexpected acceleration) occurs intermittently at low speed. When the car is at a low speed and more power is needed and the accelerator is pressed there is no response initially; accelerator is then pressed more and the car then accelerates much more than was expected, resulting in a jerky, on/off type action. I believe this could cause an accident either when trying to merge into traffic or when trying to accelerate gently and having the car accelerate more than expected (in a parking lot or heavy slow traffic etc)

Accord LX 4

  • CVT transmission
  • 180 miles

When the engine doesn't respond to the throttle, you continue to depress throttle, then the engine begins to race causing the car to lung forward at increasing speed. In a parking lot it's dangerous for people around your car. When trying to enter traffic the engine doesn't respond to the throttle then races, it gets a little scary. This problem doesn't happen every time only intermittently.

I have taken the car back to the dealer but nothing can be found!? I also reported the problem to Honda but of course they never heard of this happening. I think the problem is with the fly by wire throttle.

Accord EXL V6

  • CVT transmission

Engine appears to die when you are in a slow down situation, i.e. coasting up to a stop, around a corner or

in a school zone. Let up all the way on the accelerator and reapply accelerator at very slow speed , the engine acts as if it has lost all power. I am able to press the accelerator slowly and the engine/power reappears. The real problem here is if in heavy traffic, the engine appears to die and one slams down the accelerator, because you need to move, the engine comes to life with a roar that is too fast for heavy traffic.

I have spoken to my Honda service department about this problem once. They gave me what I suspect is their pat answer: That's just "characteristic" of this car. Not acceptable. In my opinion, this characteristic can cause an accident. It has happened several times. I have not officially took the car in to the service department for a complaint, but I will soon.

I've only had the car since 1-10-14, but I tremendously dislike this "characteristic". I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem.
