My car has shifted from both park to neutral and drive to neutral on its own three times in the last six weeks. This has occurred when parked and when at a red light. My gear shifters are electric push buttons. This has previously occurred, been reported to NHTSA, and been checked by the dealership. I was told by the dealership that it was a battery issue and paid to replace my three and a half year old battery that tested in good condition. My new battery is about a year old and I am now having the same, very serious issues. This specific model has been recalled multiple times for continuous electrical issues. I called the dealership after the first new incident and was told if they cannot repeat it, they cannot fix it. It is not occurring everyday or seemingly with any pattern so I cannot replicate it for the dealership. In the most recent incident that occurred at the red light, my car stalled and would not shift out of neutral. I had to turn off the car and restart it twice before I could shift into drive and avoid being hit. This also occurred in previous incidences that took place at red lights.

Several times now when stopped at a red light, my vehicle's idle-stop features turns of the car and fails to restart when taking my foot off the brake. The screen behind the steering wheel says to take the vehicle out of neutral and restart but it is still in drive, the battery light also comes on. I have to put it in park (after putting on my hazards because there are cars behind me), turn off the vehicle and restart it. As far as I know there are no recalls for this as of yet.

Car restarted after multiple attempts. I was in danger of being rear ended. No warning lights, no I dictations there was a problem. Dealer cannot reproduce the problem, no solution offered.

Stopped at a light and the auto start/stop system engaged and the cars engine turned off. Once the light turned green and took my foot off of the brake the engine did not automatically start. It would not start for about 30 seconds after trying to start it multiple time. The car was completely dead. Luckily the driver approaching me from behind was stopped without hitting me. This was very disturbing and dangerous.

On several occasions my 2019 Honda Pilot Touring AWD with Idle start/stop will not restart when the idle start/stop kicks in. At a stop light several times when I come to a stop and the engine will turn off and not restart when the idle start/stop engages. Very dangerous and a clear safety issue that Honda needs to rectify asap. I have read many others with the same issue occurring. Honda, please step up and do the right thing!

Several times the engine automatically shut down when I stopped in traffic, but then failed to re-start. Takes several minutes of messing with it before it will allow me to restart it. Of course there was angry traffic behind me waiting... *There is already an ongoing NHSTA investigation into this issue. NHTSA Action Number: PE22005

When vehicle comes to stop, auto stop/start feature turns off the vehicle when brake is pressed. When brake is released the engine does not start, the car goes into park or neutral and will not move until the vehicle is shut-off and restarted after a period of time. Time varies. Dealership is blaming after-market battery, stating vehicle auto idle stop/start feature requires Honda OEM battery with specific voltage. Incident occurred in January 2024, reported at 50K mile service and again in June 2024. With both incidents there were no warning lamps, messages that appeared. Honda stated they could not recreate the issue then worked with Master techs that stated it was a battery issue. Blaming it on our specific vehicle and did not inform us of investigation of thousands of claims with this specific issue. There has been an issue with multiple occurrences when auto stop/start is engaged when stopped at light then restarted the navigation system would go blank and error No Audio Connection or the apps will remain and the No audio connection error will be on top of screen and cannot turn on any of the apps such as radio, etc.

Auto start stop feature did not restart engine after I stopped in traffic ahead of me on [XXX] in New Hyde Park. This has happened twice to me and a few times to my wife although she did not report them through this site. All this is after I had reported earlier the same incidents and Honda diagnosed it to the battery needing replacement after 2 years. There is a problem with this feature and NHTSA SHOULD ACT. 1ST OCCURENCE: 45000 miles on vehicle. I was exiting a busy ramp from [XXX] to Fort Oglethorpe, Ga and the Idle stop caused the engine to stall and not re-engage upon lifting the break. I was almost hit from the rear. The vehicle had power but would not restart. I had to wait for it to shut itself down and get it to restart. 2ND OCCURENCE: 62000 miles on vehicle. Almost a year and a half from the first occurrence-I was on a very busy [XXX] and came to stop at a red light. AGAIN, the idle stop caused the engine to stall and not restart. The light turned green, and I immediately turned my flashers on. I had a child in the backseat. Cars still began honking and going around us, leaving us to potentially get smashed from behind on a road that many people travel at 55mph plus! Two nice people stopped and were going to try and push us out of the road. The vehicle would not remain in neutral and allow itself to be rolled. It automatically throws itself back into park. It eventually shut all the way down and was able to be restarted. I no longer feel safe driving my children in the vehicle as this is a HUGE safety concern for busy areas and intersections. This feature can be disengaged with a button but has to be done every time the car is re-started, this button can also easily be pushed at ANY time by accident and the feature would re-engage. Honda STILL has NO remedy to permanently disengage this feature. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Auto idle doesn't always restart. Latest incident, I was stopped at a busy intersection. It failed to restart when I lifted my foot. Caused my car to become inoperable, pretty much every light came on, radio stopped. Had to put it in park, turn off the car, and restart it. There were cars coming close to hitting me.

Auto start-stop feature is malfunctioning. It is terrifying. I have pulled up to high traffic, busy intersections and my car will idle into stop at the light. When the light turns green and I proceed to push on the gas, the engine does now restart. I have been in extremely dangerous situations where I am stuck in the middle of very busy intersections with my young children in the car with me, and my car will not move. After about 10 minutes of attempting to restart, it will eventually turn back on and I can drive again. I cannot begin to tell you how terrified I have been a couple of the times this has happened, given the conditions of the traffic. I have tried to ask Honda about this several times and they act like they have no idea as to what I am referring to. They tell me there is nothing they can do because it cannot be replicated. I know that I am not the only one that has been affected by this, as I have done a ton of research online to try and find an answer. It seems to be a fairly common issue. i now worry every time i drive my car that it will happen. So far I have been lucky enough to avoid an accident each time this has happened. One occurrence was very close, as a car swerved at the last second before running right into me. It is utterly irresponsible of such a large automobile manufacturer to turn a blind eye to this issue. One of these days it could be catastrophic. It is my understanding that It is the responsibility of your organization to hold these manufacturer-??s accountable. I really do hope that something is done about this before someone gets seriously hurt. Thank you.

While stopped at a busy intersection the vehicle stalled and would not restart. Everything went blank. We believe it was the idle stop start feature malfunctioning. The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, there was a chirping noise coming from the timing belt. No warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The first time, the dealer stated it was normal, the second time, the dealer replaced the serpentine belt, the last time, the dealer acknowledged the noise but stated they did not have a solution to fix the issue. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to another dealer who stated it was a known issue called the timing belt chirp. They also stated when replacing the timing belt, they install a part to prevent the noise as well as prevent wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Hondas Service Bulletin 16-054, which applied to the year make and model of the contact's vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, a case was opened and then closed. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
