CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 was redesigned with new fascia and headlights, but what will be particularly interesting to watch will be the new, direct-injected V6 engine with CVT. Nissan's history with CVTs has been shaky at best.

Pathfinder S 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 41,000 miles

2 days before service, we ran onto 91 freeway, then suddenly the acceleration is not normal, and a ! sign came out in dashboard. Suddenly I tried to get off the freeway right away and try to find a spot to stop. I found an exit and I exit the freeway and I park when it's red light, then I put gear back to D(drive), and luckily it's comes back normal. On 3/22/2022 I went to dealer for normal service oil change and tire rotation, and they found something wrong in the CVT transmission cause misalignment in the belt and causing the computer data error in transmission. Dealer promised me to fix the issue and rent me free a rental car for 5 days. Since the car is under a 5 years warranty and transmission under powertrain, they take care of the cost. Hope it's fixed soon. I will update this review once it's fixed.

Pathfinder SV 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,990 miles

I was pulling out in traffic and the SUV wouldn't accelerate. I immediately put on the hazards. I kept pressing on the gas and held my foot on the pedal then it darted off. Very dangerous. I feared for my life, my family's life, and the lives of others.

I made an appointment for a transmission flush...it didn't fix it.

I had an oil change...it didn't fix it.

I changed the air filter...it didn't fix it.

I put fuel injection cleaner in...it didn't fix it.

It gets worse when it rains heavy. It starts to jerk as I'm driving like it's losing gas...like it's not connecting. I have NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON so none of the dealerships know what is going on.

Last I have odd corrosion on my battery 😭. BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, my air conditioner fan blower was knocking and I had it fixed... although it still makes a noise.

Pathfinder SL 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 42,000 miles

While driving the car, after one red light I noticed that the car moving sluggishly, and the Rev counter was rising to 5-6K when I pressed the accelerator. The rev counter was not coming down as I picked up. When I release the Gas pedal, the car stopped as if someone pressed the breaks softly, and the car jerks. It was feeling like I was driving a Tesla with the auto breaking turned on :).

Also, the driver's side rear door stopped to open from inside, and the passengers were not able to use that door without outside help. After dealing with this issue for couple of times, I stopped the car, turned off the engine, and then restarted it. The car became responsive after that, and the problem with the door also went away. However, I am not sure if this is fixed permanently.

Nissan settled a class action lawsuit on the 2014 and 2015 CVT transmission and did not pit them in their 2016 but did in the 2017. Now I am having the same issues where my car won't switch gears and can take up to 20 seconds or more for it to start going again. The dealership says no codes were found and won't do anything to help. Sounds like there should be another lawsuit.

Pathfinder SV 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 13,359 miles

I purchased this vehicle after being reassured by dealer they had fixed the problem with cvt transmission. (traded my 2014 pathfinder for this one) . First day I had to have ECM module changed due to defect. This help somewhat but sluggishness and hesitation continued. Several months later returned to have gas pedal assembly replaced which did little to remedy the same problems. Over the last year I have taken vehicle back to dealer several times for same problem. They advised that there is a sluggishness problem but does not show up on the computer. They advised to keep driving it till it gets worst then return for servicing. Wrote to Nissan Canada to rectify this problem and they keep sending me back to dealer.

People, they have not resolved the problems with the CVT transmission , so it is a crap shoot if you get a good or bad pathfinder. If you think the dealer is going to remedy this problem for you, you're wrong. Until the transmission breaks down, you're stuck. Hopefully it is in warranty period.

Reason I purchased a second Pathfinder is that other car dealers are aware of Nissan transmission problems and gave me next to nothing for trade in. My only recourse was to return to Nissan to get something out of trade in. So once you purchase one you could be stuck for several years of misery.

Once this vehicle is past its prime, I will never set foot in a Nissan dealership again. Advice to people is avoid Nissan and their famous CVT transmission and stick with a vehicle with normal transmission.
