Substantial wear and tear with the wire at the trunk causing the middle stop light to go off. Had to weld the wire at the mechanical shop to get the light functioning again. It was not the light bulbs that blow, but the wire connecting them that was torn off. Anyway, hatchbacks with frequent shutting of the trunk exacerbates the problem.

it affected the brake lites, power locks, shifterinterlock .was out of warranty. i had many stationwagons , hatchbacks. never had anything like this happen. the guy or gal at the assembly plant did not make sure the wires were longenough or it was break time or was not paying attention. it could be if the wires were not long enough they should fixed then but no they let it go . i think i will not like ford any more.

Focus 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,000 miles

First time, the car would "hunt" while idling, then intermittently die or not start after driving for a while. In unseasonably warm November weather (which seems a clue now). The electrics came on but the car would not start. The radio was "reset" each time this happened. Eventually it would start but was inconvenient as it could die anywhere. Dealer took car in and checked it out for several days before getting it to do the same thing (no error code?) ... and replaced computer.

Second time (and this seems the same but might not be!) this started happening during hot weather, "hunting" during idle, then upon stopping vehicle it would not start and electrics "reset"... left overnight, car started fine. Several weeks later, I noticed an odd sound over the radio like interference, the AC was cranked full on, in 90 degree weather. Stopped for gas and car would not start, same symptoms and the check engine, battery, and oil lights glowed steady. Waited for car to cool down in shade but it wouldn't start, had to have it towed.

I have a 2007 ford focus 2.0 engine. When I went to work yesterday, everything was fine and when I got off everything was fine. So I arrived at the store last night and came back out, I tried to crank the damn car it wouldn't start but all the lights, heat, radio, lights panel, and everything else came on. I am pissed as hell cause I have already spent so much money on this car this year. I tried to crank it up over and over again. After trying to crank it up for the 5th or 6th times, it cranked. I arrived home finally and I cut it off. I tried to crank it up again but it wouldn't do nothing. I am so pissed as hell right now cause like I said I have spent so much money already. Early this month I spent 400 on a hub, seal and assembly for the front right wheel. This will be my last ford.

Focus SES

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,840 miles

FOR GOODNESS SAKES, IT'S TWO YEARS OLD......!!!!!!!!! K....I use my dad's 2007 Ford Focus SES 4-door sedan to go to work every single day. It's a total of about 30 miles a day. The total mileage right now is a little over 38,800. I've been faithful to give it routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, visual inspections, etc., etc.) Well, about a month and a half ago, I went to start my car after work and it just made a popping sound and wouldn't start for anything. So, my boss was kind enough to jump start my car a total of three times. After everytime, it would die. After the final try, he went to put it in reverse and it just shook, the lights and radio flickered on and off and then it died out. So, we had to call for a tow and had a private mechanic take a look at it. After several hours, he called and said it was ready. We went to go pick it up and he said that all it was was a totally dead battery. So, after a new battery and $200, the Focus was on the road again. Well, just yesterday, my car decided it wanted to be a pain in the a$$ again. After teaching my mother how to drive for around 1 to 1 and a half hours in an empty parking lot, I noticed something strange going on with the car. The air conditioner was set at max and at the coldest setting but within seconds it was barely pushing out any air. And the air it was pushing out was hot! Right away I knew that something wasn't right. So, I told my mom we should call it a day and went back to the drivers side so I could drive us home. But, I noticed then that the AM radio was on and it sounded very static-like. That really told me something was going awry because no one in that car ever touched the radio. I decided to tell my husband what was going on since he was there in the parking lot with us in another car. So, he came over and turned off the engine...then tried to start it. Sure enough, it was dead! We were pissed off! We had toasted a brand new battery within 2 months. So, that leaves me to believe that it is the alternator. Another possibility is bad wiring. Eversince my dad has owned this pre-owned Focus, the CD player has really been "one with the car". Anytime you play a CD and accelerate, the volume automatically goes up. And whenever you slow down, the volume lowers itself. It's very strange but we're wondering now if everything is somehow linked. Either way, the car is way too new to be having mechanical malfunctions like this. Don't get me wrong, I love this car. It's sporty and compact. It handles beautifullly and can brake on a dime. But, for crying out loud, it's not even at 50,000 miles yet! Does anyone maybe have an idea of what it could be???

Focus SE 2.0L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,903 miles

I personally found it FASCINATING (sarcasm, anyone?) that in DECEMBER of 2007 we had to have the alternator replaced in an '07 vehicle!!! RIDICULOUS! And I'm just posting this as we have it in the shop AGAIN, for the same problem, but SW Ford in W'ford, TX is telling us they can't find anything wrong. You can read more about it on my next complaint! DON'T buy a Ford Focus. If you do, GOOD LUCK.

This is complaint TWO on the same '07 Ford Focus. Had alternator replaced 12/11/07, alternator has warranty of 12 months or 12000 miles, I'm thinking YES we are still under warranty (barely). Well, husband was driving when battery light came on several days ago, and he thought, well, the alternator was JUST replaced 7 months ago, right? Maybe corrosion on cables, no big. Then after a doc appt (and no great news there, to make a bad sitch even WORSE), it started kind of "jumping", then all the elec went out, then when he tried to roll up the window it died. So, we had it towed to a Good Year, who then informed us it's the alt. Since it's the alt, then Ford should pay for it, so we have it towed to Ford. Now they are trying to tell us there is nothing wrong (maybe because if we bring it home and drive about 600 mi, WE will have to pay for the repair?). I will NEVER buy another Ford. I am SOOOO not happy about this. If and when we figure all this out, and if I can I'll post another comment or something letting anyone know how it worked out, but as it stands we're being screwed around by the Ford people. Hope they recall the piece of doodie.

Focus 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

When being used on a patrol for our security company, the vehicle stopped and when attempted to restart, it just clicked. The vehicle was jumped and taken to Ford for repair. The battery became bad as a result of a faulty alternator. The vehicle mind you only had 15,000 miles on it. This was 1 of 4 problems (was 3 previously) reported to this website on the 2007 Ford Focus.

Focus ES 4.0

  • Manual transmission
  • 480 miles

I bought a brand new 2007 Ford Focus from our military car sales here in Europe and after less than 10 days and under 500 miles the car DIED!!! WILL NOT START JUST CLICKS. Garage here in Italy says they can fix it however I am not sure.

I wish Ford Motor Company would give me my money back so I could buy another American car such as a Dodge.

I am so sick of this. Anyone have any clues as to why the secure lock is in place (keeping the car from starting)?

Any clues would be nice and now since it's the holidays I have to wait until Jan 8th 2007 before it goes to the shop.

I am pissed I need a car that is dependable because I drive 70+ miles a day.
