The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

While driving at highway speed the rear window suddenly shattered with no apparent external force. There was a loud pop/bang and rapid decompression in the cabin and the entire rear window was shattered. Upon checking the damage after stopping the car, the glass had blown outward. There were brake lines emanating from a point near the rear wiper, although there was no visible mark on the glass or the wiper of an impact.

The contact also stated that the sunroof was closed at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the contact was informed that the sunroof needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 11,200.

While driving home from work, at about 4:00 in the afternoon, the moonroof glass exploded outward. No damage from debris or falling objects on the glass. Windows and moonroof were closed. A/C set at 71 degrees. Temperature outside showed to be 102 degrees. Car was parked under covered parking at work for 10 hours before driving home.
