CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

My 2010 Ford Fusion steering keeps locking up with a steering assist fault code. It happens at random times wether at slow speeds or high speeds. My daughter drives this vehicle and it's very scary to think she will lose control of a moving vehicle putting her in danger and others around her. I've noticed there have been thousands of complaints but Ford refuses to recall the 2010 year. They have recalled other years for this problem. I just don't understand.

I keep getting power steering assist fault errors. It seems to me that this should have been fixed by a recall.

After starting the vehicle, power steering assist fault displays and steering is "locked" I.e. can not be turned. Cycled the ignition a number of times and eventually the steering functioned. This has occurred twice. Dealer wants $1600 for this repair.

While driving the vehicle lost power steering and nearly caused me to wreck, somehow I was able to get the car off the road safely. The warning message 'power steering assist fault' appeared on the dash and seems to be a common problem with 2010 Fusion and other models. After turning the car off twice the message reset and power steering came back however I'm scared to drive the car not knowing if this issue will pop up when I'm on the highway at a high speed. Luckily I didn't injure or kill myself or others this time.

Imagine driving down the interstate at 65 mph in heavy traffic and the electric power steering motor goes out and it takes everything in your power to maintain control. Not knowing what was wrong and afraid of damaging something further having to get the car towed $ 125 and after a $1,800 repair bill at the dealer they explained almost every year model Fusion except the 2010 I own wasn't recalled. Not counting the cost of a rental and time missed from work while the car was in the shop. I'd consider myself to be a pretty decent driver but now I'd like you to try and imagine if that would have been your wife or daughter driving and that happen. As far as the exact date I guess because I had to pay with a debit card (cash) my Ford pass app doesn't even show a record of it. But I can go to my bank and get the date because I had to call them to spend that much on a debit card

Power steering failure while in a parking lot of a busy shopping center pulling out of my space. Had it towed to the dealership. After $199 diagnostic fee they tell me the power steering rack has to be completely replaced and it's going to cost me over $2,300!!!! this is a known issue and Ford isn't doing anything to help people and yet the recalled the 2011 that uses the exact same power steering system. Now I am forced to buy another car the same month I was to pay it off because I dont have the $2300 at christmas time to get a car fixed that is 9 years old. This is wrong. Ford should be held liable!!!

Car was in detached very cold garage, started car. When putting in reverse noticed a warning on screen stating power steering failure. As I was backing out of garage I couldn't turn the steering wheel without a great deal of difficulty. After speaking with a friend decided to turn off the car and restart. When I did so, the power steering warning was gone and I could turn the steering wheel. I was able to drive the car 5 miles to a Ford dealership worrying the entire way that it would go off again. I've since been informed by Ford dealership that the entire power steering assembly needs to be replaced.

When I started up the car & was going to pull out the light for passenger air bag came on, then I turn my wheel & there is like a grinding sound. I pulled on side of road & had someone come check it. They said same thing I did. I thought it was something rubbing against the tire, but when we looked there was nothing. Then he kept turning the wheel & it sounded more in the steering column. My husband checked underneath the car when I got home & thank goodness he did because the tie rod ends inside & out were so bad that I was lucky to have not of crashed. Still the steering is making that loud grinding, screeching sound. Air bag & trac lights come on occasionally still also. Really feel unsafe driving my car here the last few months. Ive had it parked for the last month & bought just something to get around for now til I can afford to have it fixed or they have a recall on these. Ive seen so many other people with same problems & I also seen they recalled the 2011 for same issues. Why not the 2010"???"

I started my car when leaving work and received an error that the power steering failed. I followed the guidelines in the book and turned off the car for 30 seconds and restarted. On restart the error returned. I drove car to mechanic and had no power steering. After talking with mechanic attempted to leave and still no power steering. Another error turned on prior to leaving the parking lot with advancetrac failure. Left car at mechanic. Error sounds similar to other Ford and Lincoln cars with power steering failure.

This vehicle has epas. Last night my wife drove the vehicle to the gas station and parked in front of a gas pump. Someone asked her to move forward and when she started the car, she received the "power steering assist failure" message and the power steering refused to work. The vehicle was stationary. She started the car and shut it off numerous times until the system reset and she was able to drive the vehicle home. This car belongs to an 85 year old woman and if the power steering fails while she is driving the car she would not have the strength to control the steering.

When turning on car at the Ford dealership following repair of recalled airbag the warning light to service electronic trac system. Steering wheel would not turn. Service writer checked codes and nothing came up. I was told to just turn it off and back on and that would reset it. That worked. It continued to do that on and off the next 2 weeks. Then it would not reset. We tried to drive it stopping and starting it to try to reset it. It suddenly became really difficult to steer and my husband lost control and ran over a curb on city street. Luckily no one was on the curb or sidewalk.no injuries. Ford says the electronic steering is out and will need to be replaced costing over 18,000$. I have 133,000 miles on car.
