Power steering intermittently fails when I am driving. I have no control over my car when this happens. Passenger side airbag has issued a recall. I live in Washington state and no dealer has the replacement parts I've been waiting for 2 years!!!

The power steering stopped working. For about 1.5 months when I would turn on the vehicle the dash would notify of a power steering fault and power steering would not work (steering wheel near impossible to move). However, if I turned the car off and back on the fault would go away and power steering would return to normal. Unfortunately now the power steering is permanently not working and the car is no longer safe to drive. Stability control warning also came on immediately after. Extremely glad power steering did not go out while I was driving, it would have likely caused me to crash since steering is so hard to use without power steering. I did some research Ford has a recall for this exact issue for the 2011 and 2012 Fusion but not the 2010 but appears the 2010 is affected by the same defect.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 25 mph and pulling into the driveway, the service power steering now indicator illuminated. The contact was unable to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was towed to nelson Ford fergus falls (2228 college way, fergus falls, Minnesota 56537, (218) 998-8878) and failure code: Ae5Z3504eerm (steering gear) was located. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in the manufacturer steering wheel repair program due to the vehicle's mileage. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Car in parking lot. Stared car as normal. Steering wheel locked up and would not move. Turned vehicle off and restarted. Steering now normal. Car was not in motion at the time. Took to Ford dealer (meyers Ford, elkton) they say it needs a rack and pinion assembly. Seems like steering wheel lock did not disengage. Tech at Ford dealer said this was the 2nd car this week with the same problem.

My front driver side tire was flat after work. I drove it down the street to the gas station to use the air pump. On my way there, I started getting the 'service power steering now' and a advantrac light came on as well. I still had some control so I pulled into the gas station and aired up the tire. However, the system never reset afterwards. At this point, I had no steering control whatsoever. I restarted it, disconnected the battery, checked fuses, etc. Nothing restored the steering to the car, and now the car is unsafe to drive.

Power steering assist fault - car became almost impossible to steer. This issue has been recalled by NHTSA for model years 2011 thru 2013, but not for 2010. This is despite the fact that there have been thousands of cases of the same issue with 2010 and that this issue is a significant safety risk. There needs to be a recall on 2010 models asap!

I was driving my car like normal, and I lost all steering power. It felt kinda like my car had cut off, because of the stiffness of the steering. I was pulling out of a parking lot, onto a main street when it happened. I almost crashed into parked cars on the right side of the street (I was turning left). The car "dinged" 3 times and I noticed the car says "power steering assist fault & service advance trac".

While driving 35 mph the vehicle lost power steering and displayed power steering assist fault warning message. Vehicle became very hard to maneuver. Power steering has not returned to vehicle making it extremely hard to drive and practically unsafe.

Without notice power steering fail to perform while driving, in two occasions I was very close to end in an accident, good driving skill avoid this accidents. Ford made a recall for the 2011 vehicle and not for the 2010 when is exactly the same mechanical parts in both and the 2010 pretty much has as many or more complains than owner of 2011 and 2012. In the long run this factory defect will claim some human life and Ford will have another dead over their shoulder. In one case the vehicle was in motion, in the second case it happen as soon I start driving in my way home. It's a common manufacture problem, Ford knows as well than the government but I'm sure nothing will happen till someone die due to this problem. I have contacted the Ford company and the local dealer with absolutely no positive result. Shame on Ford and the government. I'm a disable person under permanent disability and drive this car is pretty much an impossible under this manufacture mal function recognize problem.

While in motion power steering message appear on dashboard, and steering has hard. Took car to dealer and they stated that I needed to replace the steering and pinion. But when I got the car back from the dealer and steering was working. Issue came back a week later and I took the car to a local mechanic that stated that the dealer probably reset the codes or computer. He check the steering and cabling and found no issue. He reset the computer code and the issue went away. Two weeks later after my tire became low the same issue happen. It seems that the steering keeps erroring out or getting some type of message causing it to shutdown until the code is reset.
