2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

The contact's son owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with power steering assist failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Power steering assist fault and advancetrac started showing on dash, steering is extremely difficult. All fuses have been checked and they are fully functional. Very very dangerous for power steering to not function properly. Was quoted $2,000 to have electronic power steering rack and pinion to be replaced. I can't afford to have that replaced when clearly this is a safety issue that Ford needs to fix.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering failed to activate on the initial start-up. The contact would have to restart the vehicle for the power steering to activate, however, it would eventually fail again causing them to have to restart and start the vehicle again. The contact had spoken with the dealer who informed them that their vehicle was not included in any recall. The vehicle had not been officially diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,240.
Power steering assist light came on and suddenly made it very difficult to steer/control the car. It looks like this issue is under investigation by you and I wanted to let you know that another case occurring.
Complete loss of power of steering while driving in heavy traffic. Warning lights came on and message was Service Power Steering Now and Traction Control failure warning. Codes C1277 and C1963 via diagnosed with OBDII tester. When I was turning a corner, all power of steering lost. Steering wheel would not turn and barely missed hitting curb trying to complete the turn. Managed to avoid oncoming traffic and pulled onto side of road. Had to get car home so waited for traffic to clear. Steering wheel had to be manually forced to stay straight and extreme force to turn corners. Car also pulls hard to left and has to be held straight by extreme exhertion of force. Repair cost quoted over phone in excess if $2500. Told PCM and rack and pinion need to be replaced, car reprogrammed and wheel alignment.

Was driving down the highway and a light on the dashboard came on with a notification for the steering system needing to be checked. Then another notification for the power steering failure. After that car steering was very difficult. I stopped by a gas station to see if the fluids were low only to find this years model is electrical. I can no longer drive the vehicle. It was very dangerous. It happened while driving at highway speeds. We were very lucky that the it was late at night and not crowded at the time. If it had been any busier or my wife was driving it could have been very catastrophic as it randomly dropped out in casual driving.
I have 2010 Fusion that I have brought 3 yrs ago but last year my power steering fault has been going on and off. Since the pandemic happened I did not worry because I was working for home and my children were learning from home so the stiffness of the wheel. Now that everything is getting back to normal in slowly. I took my car to the mechanic and he explained that the power steering would need to be replace and I expressed that Ford has not recalled the 2010 Fusion for the power steering fault. To have this fix they quoted me $1400 and I am now trying to get a two quote.
I own this 2010 Ford Fusion that is in great shape and only has 78,750 miles on it. About a week ago the Service Advance Trac light came on. I took it to a repair shop and they plugged in a code reader and told me that a Power Steering module was bad and an estimate to repair it was $1,800 dollars. I found that Ford had recalls for this same problems on there 2011 thru 2015 Ford Fusion models. I am wondering why the 2010 is not included in this recall for the same problem. I am retired and on a fixed income and cannot afford the repair cost. Please look into this.
Upon start up my power steering assist fault message would appear I would shut the car off and restart the light would not come on and would drive fine. On 10/21/21 I lost all power steering. I-??ve seen where the 2011 and 2012 models were recalled for the same issue. Just trying to figure out why this model was not. My car has 48500 miles this is not a problem a car with this low mileage should have
Car showed "Power Steering Assist Failure" at random points in time and steering is hard to move. Turning off the car and restarting would make the message go away. This had been occuring for a few years on and off. Problem did not occur at dealership, so no repairs could be identified. For past 6 months, the frequency of this incident was increasing. Last week, the message would not go away despite multiple restarts. Diagnosis by dealer was that steering gear needed to be replaced.
Went to leave work one night and backed up and the power assist come up on the dash... now I got to fix it.... I've seen so many complaints about it. Fixing it and selling it.
Power steering assist failed multiple times while driving and has now gone out completely. I loose all easy control and for a 74 year old woman it's not safe I see there is a lot of recalls for this but not on this car
Power steering assist fault light came on and steering is locked up! Had someone hook a computer up to the car and have codes. Ford tells me they can-??t tell me what the codes mean and I have to pay $144 for a diagnosis, then whatever repair costs to fix! I-??m a single mother and can-??t afford the repair costs!!
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed to turn with the power steering assist warning light illuminated. The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The electronic steering assist failed twice within 10 days. The last time it happened the steering assist wouldn't work at all. The vehicle is not able to be driven in its present state without steering assist. Both times it happened the car was not moving so no accidents occurred. I did not take it in to be serviced. I do most of my mechanic work myself. The fuses are good. I disconnected the battery for a few days and tried it again and it still doesn't work. From online research I found that the 2011 and 2012 fusion models were recalled from this issue and there is an open investigation by the NHSTA of the 2010 fusion steering assist motor. The vehicle and part has not been inspected. I removed it today 7-30-2021 and plan on installing a re-manufactured electronic steering assist rack and pinion. There is a core charge so I'll be returning the part to the re-manufacturer. There were no warnings, just the message on the dashboard that the electronic steering assist had a problem. It happened the first time on 7-10-2021 and the second on 7-15-2021. The vehicle has 159,000 miles.
The steering assist light came on and the power steering to the car quit working. This could have caused a collision because I was unable to steer the car. 2011 through 2015 has been recalled due to this problem but my car is a 2010 with the same part not recalled.
Loss of steering assist while driving. Steering wheel got very hard to turn vehicle. The following message appeared after loss of steering: "POWER STEERING ASSIT FAULT, SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC". Scanned codes: U3000-96 and C200D-49. Brought vehicle to Dealership for full diagnostic and awaiting response
While reversing out of my driveway, my dash showed an alert saying "power steering assist failure". I had only manual steering, making it very hard to turn the wheel. I pulled back into the driveway safely. I looked that alert up online to see what to do, and I have found that THOUSANDS of others have had the exact same issue. I took it to the mechanic and they can't find any problem. How am I supposed to feel safe driving this car when thousands of other people are saying they have the same issue. I am even more alarmed that 2011 and 2012 ford fusions were recalled for this issue but not 2010? I feel very unsafe to even drive the car, even though the message has now gone off my dashboard without even fixing it....
The power steering does not work at low speeds-it seems to work ok when I am going fast and I have a few friends/family that have Ford Fusions that have the same problem. I cannot turn without using every muscle in my arms to turn the vehicle, making driving almost impossible. The first time it occurred I was turning into my driveway and almost went down the embankment. I was stopped by a huge rock and messed up the whole front end! I got that fixed a little, the bumper is hung by zip ties and four mechanics I talked to do not know how to fix it because there is no power steering pump.
