CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

SRS (supplemental restraint system) light on instrument panel, light has come on three (3) times, dealership has examined vehicle each time, SRS control module has been replaced, and reset which has failed to correct the problem.
This problem (SRS lights) started within 12 miles from driving off the dealer lot. Was told it's normal-"forget about it". there have been only fleeting days between the christmas light show the dash lights put on. It does not instill confidence. Poor servic E guys can't fix it because nothing works. I don't want to drive a car without airbags. If I wanted a non-airbag equiped car, I would have paid less for one - an old one most likely. I can't believe this is a Honda product!!!! I
Since date of purchase consumer has taken vehicle to dealership four times for airbag illumination. Manufacturer contacted dealership to inform them they were aware of problem, but no remedy could be found at this time. Please provide furthur details.
Side impact airbag light illuminates at various times, sometimes while vehicle is in motion. Dealer has stated several times that the system is operating normally even though the light illuminating is showing a fault somewhere in the system.
While traveling AT40 mph another vehicle cut consumer off. As a result of an accident, passanger's side air bag went off, but driver's side did not deploy. Consumer suffered injuries.

Consumer has been to the dealership numerous times for the air bag light coming on, 2 times they reset the light, 3rd attempt they replaced the air bag unit, however the light continues to illuminate.
The SRS warning light was on. The diagnosis determined the fault was caused by low system voltage even though the battery and electrical system tested to oem specs. No parts were replaced. The servicing dealership (gillman Honda - houston) said the fault is due to a misdesign by Honda. This problem may prevent the airbags from deploying (if the SRS fault light is illuminated again). A safety recall should be considered.
In a period of 4 weeks the vehicle has been returned to the dealership twice for repairs to the air bag system, the SRS on the dashbroad lit up indicating that a problem exist with the system, first for the air bag on the driver's side, then for the air bag on the passenger's side.
Transmission when in reverse jolted, consumer stated that it felt like he backed into something or rolled over an object. Honda said they had about 300 complaints, only V6 engines. Consumer has been to dealer a few times with the complaint. Finally called Honda who admitted the defective problem. Vehicle had a defective airbag light.
Transmission made a loud sqeaking noise and the air bag system failed twice. The dealer was informed appx. 7 day after the car was purchased of the problem and insisted it was just new car noises they will work themselves out. And again in April may I informed the dealer and the same things was said. Now I have a replaced transmission and they do not know why the SRS system keeps failing.
The SRS light stays on. Not sure if airbags will work in a collision. Dealer will try to fix with new SRS control modules. Speedometer head unit is up to 13% off (depending on speed) and is somewhat unresponsive to minor speed changes. Disconcerting while driving in traffic since I can't verify my actual speed due to the slow to respond and inaccurate speedometer unit readout. This leads to overaccelerating or overdeccelerating while driving in traffic in an attempt to hold local speed zone laws. Verified by a pgm test at local dealer. No fix for the speedometer head unit for now...told by Honda customer relations to wait for a possible fix in November 2000. The driver's power seat makes a clunking noise while driving, not sure why. Finally, while driving in traffic many times when I press the accelerator pedal the car does not respond very quickly or even falls flat for a second before it goes, pretty disconcerting at times, especially at intersections.
Engine check light went on twice. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said fuel filler: Cap was not on properly. Then, it was electrical system causing engine light to come on. A week later, SRS light came on, indicating something wrong with airbag and seatbelts.
Consumer bought vehicle in May 22 of 2000. Then, on June 12, 2 000, airbag modular light sensor came on, and was still on at this time. Consumer took vehicle to dealership, and mechaniic told her that vehicle is under correction process.
