CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.
BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.
OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.
UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

I bought my 2008 Honda Accord 2.4L new in Jan 2008. Never has a major problem until spring last year (2014). Always has oil changes on times and recommended services done. Went to the dealer to get the oil changed and 4 weeks later the oil displayed 15 % on the oil display with less than 1000 miles. Take back to the dealer was told the tech might forget the reset. I told them that I checked it before I left the dealer it was at 100%. The tech said that it might be my driving habit and I told him I drove the car for the past 6 years, I know what my driving habit is like. And it can't be this bad. I moved to a different town and still have my oil changed at the dealer. I have to add a quart or two in between oil change, which is between 3000-4000.
In December 2014, I took my car in for 90000+ maintenance service. Everything recommended has been services except the timing (chain). The car run fine until yesterday. I was on my way to work when the engine light come on. While I was looking for a safe spot, the engine light keep blinking and slowed my vehicle down to 35 mph on a 55 mph zone. I pulled over and turned off the engine. Checking my engine oil, gas, transmission fluid, and braking fluid...Everything is good. Turn on my car again, the engine is on and blinking. Had my car towed to the shop and to do a test. After they run a test, they said " 4th Cyclinder Misfire" and my 4th cylinder has no compression at all. The dealer told me it could be a numbers of things and most of them has been services in Dec 2014.
At this point, I'm mad and need to know what to do. For sure, I'm paying more $6000- $8000 to replaced the engine for worst case scenario. I do not consider this normal after the maintenance service.
Following the successful V6 class action for the same problem, 2.4L Accord owners should join to pursue the same route!
