CarComplaints.com Notes: There's an emerging trend of transmission problem with the 2010 Elantra at fairly early mileage.

So far owners report having the transmission replaced under warranty but that won't hold up for much longer. It may be a bit premature but for now we're putting the "CLUNKER" rating on the 2010 Elantra just to be safe.

Speaking of being safe, you might not be unless Hyundai can figure out why their airbags aren't deploying.

2010 Hyundai Elantra. Consumer writes in regards to a frayed wire the consumer stated at the end of April, his wife began to notice that each time the car was being driven. There was smoke in the interior, and the smell of something burning. She brought the matter to the consumer's attention after observing scorched areas of the overhead material, lining the underside of the roof. Additionally, she noticed that the plastic of the overhead light fixture was visibly melted and distorted. The dealer stated the damage was caused by frayed wiring, but they did not find any burnt wires.
