This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 1995 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal detached from the firewall. The contact was able to successfully stop the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to an independent repair shop but they did not diagnose or repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was unavailable.
When pressing on the gas pedal with moderate to heavy pressure (for moderate to fast acceleration of the vehicle), the vehicle, on occasion, continues to accelerate after releasing the gas pedal. If the gas peddle was pressed down firmly when this happens, braking has little effect on controlling the vehicle. Tapping the gas pedal does not seem to correct the issue as it occurs. After shifting the vehicle into neutral (automatic transmission), the acceleration seems to stop within one second.
Gas pedal stuck while driving at thirty five mph. I had to pull the pedal up with my right foot. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer advised that the cable going from the gas pedal to the throttle was wearing away everytime I accelerated. I had to pay for the repairs. I feel this is more of a safety hazard, than a wear and tear item. The vehicle has low mileage and has been regularly serviced at the dealership. The servicing dealership was not the dealership that the vehicle was purchased at. The servicing dealer was reed Nissan (orlando fl) although I am very pleased with the service they provide.
Started parking vehicle and it started to rev very fast; foot on brakes & vehicle suddenly took off & hit brick wall of restaurant; air bag did not deploy; took to dealer & found nothing wrong.
