I was having trouble with a leak somewhere in the engine. I suspected that the problem might have been caused by the shop that replaced the engine computer, and I was trying to find another shop to take it to. I finally gave in and took the car back to them. They said they had to replace the engine gasket because that was where the leak was. They also replaced the alternator because they said it had been badly damaged by the oil leak. When I picked up my car I noticed that the engine light was on. I drove it home, and I drove it again the next day. I began to notice that the car was shaking and knocking. The engine light began to flash. I haven't driven it since that day because I don't trust it to get me home.

I was reading several complaints from people who had the same, or similar problems. I also wonder if this is why the previous owner got rid of it (my son got it used).

There should have been a recall for this.

Burnt valve. Needs to be rebuilt. Repair costs more than car is worth. Thousands have reported this same problem including a few friends but Nissan refuses to acknowledge this is a problem. I read that it has something to do with the catalytic converter causing extreme heat around number 4 piston. Design flaw. NEVER, EVER BUY A NISSAN PRODUCT! I have lots of problems and complaints with this car but have wasted enough time on it.

Altima GXE 2.4L V4

  • Automatic transmission

I feel awkward because the car didn't shake when idle until a mechanic convinced me that I had a leaky gasket (and a few other leaky parts). The problem started after they worked on it, but only after their standard 30-day standard service warranty expired!

idle smooth when cold, but rough idle at normal temp. Yes, 270,000 miles and still getting 22-23 mpg city/hwy.
