Timing chain guide and/or tensioner are bad. Nissan has stated the timing chain is a no maintenance for the life of the vehicle. At the very least i expected to get 250,000 miles out of it. I've always used Mobil one Extended performance at the correct intervals. I've had shocks, transmissions, TPMS and engine mounts go bad. I expected it all even though a little sooner then what i hoped. So one day i heard a bit of a rattle and it slowly got a little louder. I was at Nissan picking up parts and asked there own mechanic about it. He told me to start the car, so i did. As soon as i started the car he told me to shut it down and told me its a timing chain guide or tensioner. He said it wasn't worth taking to the shop to check because he's heard it before and it happens alot. I've asked two different Nissans about pricing i've been told $831 and $1900. Remind you that this is a part they already have a lawsuit over, but the TSB the lawsuits using doesn't list the QR25DE. I've asked what they would need to do to the car. They told me the engine would have to be completely REMOVED from the car, the lower and upper oil pan removed, the timing cover removed to replace a part worth $40. Nissan knows there was a problem with the guide and they've redesigned it. The fact is i bought my car new or used is mute. Its still a NISSAN. The fact i do most of my own work doesn't matter it;s still a NISSAN. the fact that my mileage is 106000 doesn't matter for a part that was poorly designed and I was led to believe it would take no maintenance or replacement for the life of the vehicle. This part if it were to let my chain slip the engine would then destroy it self. An engine destroying it self at possible freeway speeds doesn't sound safe to me. It makes an embarrassing sound, could kill me and at $1900 id only be $1000 away from putting in a new engine. When my timing chain issue goes away so will I. Case number 23035796
