INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION SHUDDER RANGING FROM MILD TO VIOLENT WITH ACCOMPANYING DECREASE OF POWER. SHUDDER PRIMARILY OCCURS AT LOW SPEED IN THE 20-40 MPH RANGE BUT HAS ALSO OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING. SHUDDER SEEMS TO BE CAUSED BY A VARIETY OF VARIABLES INCLUDING SPEED AND DEGREE OF INCLINATION OF THE ROAD. LOSS OF POWER HAS OCCURRED IN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PASSING SITUATIONS

Pathfinder SL 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 5,715 miles

The dealership gave me a rental for the day and then reprogrammed CVT. Initially there was some jerking or stuttering but now I haven't run into any issues. I have been driving the car for the last three days so far.

Update from Oct 30, 2013: Well now I am starting to notice stuttering when turning left or right at speed below 20 MPH. I am going to take it back to the dealer

Update from Nov 11, 2013: I took it back to the dealership. They looked at it and ordered new transmission. I asked why a new transmission. Basically they will try to reprogram it, if it still occurs, then they will replace it.

I am going to take it tomorrow to have it replaced. Estimation is about two days.

Update from Nov 14, 2013: The dealership ordered the new transmission and it arrived within 2 weeks. I dropped off and picked up next day around afternoon. So far I have not experienced any issues. I tested in different scenarios.

Hopefully this has resolved the issue. Mileage is about 8672

Update from Nov 19, 2013: I picked it up last Thursday. Initially the vehicle was not smooth but most probably it programming itself to my driving style. I have driven about 100 miles and now it is smooth. Tried driving at slow speed and turning left or right. I have not been able to reproduce the issue.

I will update once I have driven it for a month. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

Update from Feb 25, 2014: I have currently 13245 miles on it now. So far no further issues with the transmission.

Pathfinder Premium Platinum 3.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 3,700 miles

Received a letter from Nissan stating that there may be an issue with the CVT transmision in the 2013 Pathfinder that causes the belt to slip and eventually cause damage to the transmission. The resolution is to take it to the dealership and have them reprogram the transmission, which could take about an hour to correct.

I have not actually noticed slipping with mine. When I first got the vehicle, while in traffic I sometimes had a jerking feeling. Felt like when driving a manual transmission and starting in too low of a gear. I had ask the dealer about it and they said it was normal and would stop when the transmission learned my driving. Since then I have not noticed this happening, so do not know if it was related to the mailing or not.

Have not had a chance to take it in for the reprogram.
