CarComplaints.com Notes: For the third year in a row, the 3rd generation Focus is experiencing massive transmission problems.

Most notably owners keep complaining about how there's bad hesitation and jerking when starting from a stop. This isn't the result of an old, worn out part. In fact, the average mileage it's reported to us is just over 15k miles.

My Focus 2014 has electrical problems. It was working fine with no problems at all. Except clutch of course (It shudders as many of Focus clutches). Suddenly at one nice December day it didn't start, so I decide to replace 5.5 years battery. Next day it wont start either. I check battery for parasitic leak and found 2.5 A leak. I check every single fuse and circuit, however can't find the problem. Battery dies over night, wiper arms stop working, one mirror stop moving, horn get weird (working 50/50), and finally I can't pass the CO test. I got 5 FAILURES at CO test. Car is only 5.5 years, but has to many electric problems. Also transmission clutch sucks! It shudders crazy, specially when car is wormed up. I never had so PROBLEMATIC car before in 20 years of driving.

Focus ST 2.0L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Initially began as showing O2 sensor fault. From first fault to taking to a national auto repair chain ( 2 days ), multiple other faults came up. Rough idle, sluggish acceleration, stalling and gas mileage drop apx 25% are the symptoms.

Sensors showing errors were checked and tested ok. Mechanic then pulled up recall notice 14S17 and technical bulletin 15-036 and printed them out for me. The recall and notice supposedly does NOT apply to my vehicle but the mechanic stated that the issue was in the wiring harness i.e. the same problem and error codes and behavior my vehicle was exhibiting. He also stated he had seen the same issue with a number of other 2014 Ford Focus ST vehicles - again though - they also were not on the recall list.

Unfortunately, that operation and another I contacted don't want to work on it because they stated that their belief was the vehicle would eventually be included in the recall. That sounds good BUT the concern is that Ford or the dealership will attempt to blame any issues on their repair work ( evidently they have had bad experiences in the past with the local dealership ).
