CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

To all who has a problem with Honda servise-- go to autozone and pick up the set of rear pads , part # dg1336(and if needed fronf # DG787) organic(non asbestos) pad. no squekink and no dust. screw Honda service. tired of waisting mz time there and energz trying to explain to service manager taht original parts were sh!t. maybe honda had a problem with pad materila and now lots of Accords have sh!tty brakes. but instead of arguing with them, go to Autozone and get those nice pads. you can also pick up ceramic ones, which are 20$ more, but not necessary IMHO. changen those on all my other Hondas- Prelude, (also Integra) and Odysey. happy and never went back to dealer for brakes.

I bought the 80 Honda Accord in Nov 2007, replaced the breaks and turned the rotors in July 08, replaced the breaks and turned the rotors again in January 09 and now I have the same problem again. This is ridiculous. When I get rid of this car I'll never buy another Honda again.

I bought my car back in Jan. 2008 without knowing about the new ceramix brake system on the Accords. I have NEVER had problems with the brakes and have owned Honda's since 1992. I've complained several times to Honda Corporate and every time I call they tell me that this is an ongoing investigation and once the problem has been identified they will send out a recall notice. I've had to go in at least once every 3 months to get my rotors cleaned. I've had to replace the back brake pads already and now my front ones need to be replaced. When I asked my dealership to cover the costs, they looked at me as if I were crazy and said this is my responsibility. I will NEVER again buy a Honda. I plan on going elsewhere from here on out.

Bought a 2008 Honda accord. Brakes were squeaking after 1month!!!! but it was on and off. A year passed by and then last week rear brakes started squeaking when the car was in reverse! I went to the dealer and they said the rear brakes had to be replaced for $235. They said that this is premature wear is standard on the new 08/09's and that they cannot do anything about it unless Honda does something. Anyway, I argued with them and brought the cost down to a 110$. I must say that I am disappointed with the way Honda is handling this situation and I will think twice before buying a Honda again.

Last week I was driving home and began hearing this terrible intermittent squealing noise. I stopped by the mechanics today, and they said my rear brakes need to be replaced, and they don't think they will be able to turn my rotors. With only 31,000 miles on the car, they could not believe it. I began researching the issue and stumbled onto this web site. Obviously it is a trend. I called Trickett Honda in Goodlettsville, TN. They informed me they could not help in the issue because it was not covered under the warranty, but they informed me that I could call Honda Customer Service. Honda Customer Service informed me that they are currently aware of the issue and investigating. That is not much help at this point since I have to pay to have them replaced.

The noise is really annoying. My wife uses the Honda to commute. Now I have to wait on fixing it because I lost my business and must watch every dollar we spend. She is driving my car now and our Honda is sitting in our driveway. I would rather do that than get in an accident. I will call Honda of Katy TX tomorrow and see what they have to offer because I refuse to pay anything for their mess up. If not, I will fix it,and put it for sale in no time and say Bye Bye to Honda forever.

Good luck,

Based on recommendations I purchased my first Accord last year. Thought I was investing in quality and dependability. I've been plagued by rattling, stiff ride and now I have to replace the brakes after only 27,000 miles ($322). I had better luck with my previous 4 Camry's.

FYI - I HAD MY FRONT BRAKES REPLACED WITH 07 ACCORD PADS UNDER 'GOOD WILL' CONSIDERATION FROM HONDA DISTRICT REP.... SHOOT ME AN EMAIL FOR MORE INFO...

Update from Nov 21, 2009: Here is a PDF copy of my nosy front brake repair if you'd like to use it at your discretion. Be mindful that most service managers are tied as to what they can offer under warranty to the customers.... however, as this repair shows, they can always advocate and appeal for good will repairs from the honda rep..... if they did it for me they can do it for everyone else.... let's talk about a legal precedent....

Accord EXL 3.5L V6

Just purchased my 2008 Honda Accord EXL, traded in my 2007 Chrysler 300 Touring, because my family said Honda was such a better company, had such a better maintenance record, really, really???? With only 26,000 miles the brakes were squeaking so loud, I was embarrassed to pull up beside another car. Within one week I had to have the rear pads replaced. Luckily, the nice lady that I purchased from took care of this for me, but I am so disappointed to hear that this will happen again and again. What will it take for Honda to step up and take care of this problem?? With so many complaints, and so many customers vowing not to continue to be a HONDA consumers surely they understand the need to handle this! I live in Atlanta, where we have the wonderful Clark Howard who helps consumers with problems such as this and I will call him today. I want to encourage everyone on this complaint board to shout it out to any local consumer advocate you may have and let's get some action here, I am just disgusted and we don't need to let the Honda Corporation who is making mega-bucks off all of us, get away with this kind of customer service. OK, I challenge all of you to write, call or both - until we get some action!!

Accord LX 4 cyl

Wish I had known in September 2007 when I purchased my 2008 Honda Accord that I would have to replace the brakes on the car around 19,000 miles. RIDICULOUS!!! Called the dealership and complained and they said it was because they used a soft pad for the brakes. I also called corporate and complained about it. This is my 3rd Honda I've owned and I've loved them all but sadly I feel this may be my last Honda if this is the type of product they are going to continue sell. It's interesting that it's not mentioned when you purchase the vehicle. Last night I started to hear that squeaking sound that I heard last year when I had to replace the brakes. I've gone about 17,000 miles in the last year and the dealership told me when I complained that you can expect to have to replace them anywhere between 17,000 - 23,000 miles. BOGUS and a bunch of B.S.! Back to the mechanic I go tomorrow for possibly another replacement!

So very frustrating and annoying!

I would drive the vehicle & hear a screeching loud sound. The faster I would drive my car, the louder and more annoying became the noise. I literally pumped up my radio just so I dont have to hear it. It was so embarrassing on the highway. Let alone when your riding slow around your block looking for parking yet the noise would be lower it still existed and was still annoying. If there is a Malfunction in there brake system, it makes me wonder if my Rear Brakes would ever fail just because... They should recall all these 208 Honda Accords and fix our brakes !!!! Or in my case REFUND ME, I wasn't taking a chance with my life so I immediately fixed them.. I have only 16,000 miles and already this problem..

I bought my 2008 Honda Accord coupe on January 2008 and as of today has 12,600 miles on it. My rear brakes started sqeaking at the beginning of this month and it now is at the point where it is an embarrassment to drive the car because of the noise. I called honda and they said I need to change my brakes. I think it is ridiculous to think that I would have to change my brakes at 12600 miles. There is obviously a problem with the car. I am looking to file suit on Honda if the problem is not resolved.

I have had nothing but problems with this car since I brought it in 2007. I feel like my car is falling apart. My rear brakes are still squeaking uncontrollable again. I have roughly 18,600 miles and I just had my rear brakes changed at 17k. I notice every Honda that drive up beside me have the same squeaky brake problem. I think this brake problem go way beyond just a brake issue. I am so pissed that Honda is just ignoring all the problems with the 2008 model. We need to ban together and starting picketing the Honda dealers so they can see how unhappy we are. Apparently, they are not reading these complaints or they don't care. All I want is some type of commication from them saying they are working on the problem. I call Honda every two weeks and it's the same lie about nothing has been found or no update about the problem. I don't know how much more I can take of this abuse from them. I have purchase 8 vehicle from Honda and this will be my last.

I FEEL CHEATED AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!

Accord EX-L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Like many 2008-2009 Accord owners, my brakes have been squeaking only a few mths after I purchased 2 V6 Accords (for my wife & I). Yesterday was my 6th visit to the Dealer, they said it was the grease used at the manufacturing plant that was not thick enough, but after driving out of the garage, the squeaking was back.. Honda have changed all disks and pads twice, and if Honda can not resolve this issue, I will do a stop-payment on both vehicles.

For the price we paid for each car, I could have purchased 3 Hyundai's for the same price and I am convinced I would not have had any brake issues..

This is going to hurt Honda tremendously in the months to come, as GM and Ford have increased their publicity with enhanced warranties etc etc..

yup, i'm another 2008 Honda Accord owner with squealy brakes. the brakes work just fine, except for the noise.... the car is otherwise wonderful.... i have mentioned the squeal to my Honda dealer at Inver Grove Honda in MNin 6/2009 and again in 8/2009. They said that they took my name for their brake complaint book that they are keeping on file for Honda. As of now, they don't need replacing. The pads have plenty of depth remaining.... they are just noisy. The IGH folks claim that Honda has no plan to recall anything. Has anybody else heard any news??

Brought my car in for routine maintenance at 21000 and they said your brake pads on the rear are 3mm, needs replaced soon! I just couldn't believe the service dealership said this along with it's a known problem with the 2008 Honda Accord, but hey it's a wear item..that's the breaks!!!!

This is my first and last Honda - always have been a Toyota fan - should have known better.

Paid the bill this morning for complete rear break replacement pads, which according to the dealership is with the same type of pads. I asked if I would have this again in another 21000 miles - probably was the answer! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm thinking that paying over 25k means nothing in today's world.

They said call corporate for complaints. I did, they said keep a hold of your receipt, maybe a recall will be issued, but yes this is a wear item and we are sorry for the inconvenience. I said this is an unreasonable wear item at this mileage and apparently the inferior product Honda put on the new Accords was not thoroughly tested! I also said what a shame that Honda is promoting themselves as a lower maintenance vehicle compared to the Camry, because clearly this is not the case:(

Also, this car has very high road noise - nuisance!

I guess I will wait and see what happens, but please anyone with this issue should be calling Honda so we all can get a recall initiated!

I am spitting bullets. What car needs a full break job after only 19000 miles. Mine does and apparently hundreds of other hondas. This is a blatent defect that Honda knows about and REFUSES to Fix. I was told to my face at the dealer they are fully aware of rear breaks wearing early. HELLO MCFLY, I would not of bought the car. I new I should of stayed with a Toyota 12 years with my first one and only one problem with the clutch after 9yrs. I say boycott HONDA. He asked if I still wanted the car fixed by them and I laughed in his face. Why the hell do I want to give them anymore of my hard earned cash. I heard one guy only had 10k on his car.
