CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking.
Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.
The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!
I was driving and crossed highway, then my car stopped accelerating. So I could only go 2 mph and got it home that way. So the next day I started it and it was back to normal, so I went to store about 6 blocks away. I just pulled in and it did it again. I went into the store and got my stuff and started home. Well, my lights wouldn't go on, my car was only going 2 mph so I pulled in a place and parked.
Then it wouldn't start after that. I had it towed to a place and there it sits. I heard Nissan mechanics know of this problem but can't fix it. One person said it happened often to their car but years apart. Someone else said might be alternator. I put up with the floorboard rotting because this car runs great. But it is high miles and not worth playing guessing games to find out what's wrong. So I'm seeing if anyone had this happen and know what it is? Thanks.
There I was coming out the garage after extensive repair : just changed the mounts, radiator, axle boots, brake pads, steering rod, seals, brake rotors ,etc. when on the slightest of acceleration, the car lost power. It's as if the engine was gasping for air. The car would shudder and hesitate instead of speeding. I went back to the mechanic and he tested the spark plugs, wires, he even tested the coils, same problem. Finally he tested another set of coils and it worked !!
2005 Nissan Altima 2.5L started loosing power, raising the RPM to get it up to speed then two transmigration shops later they say take it to Nissan, did that-Nissan said mass air flow meter-replaced that-no good. Replaced both the crank & cam shaft position sensors-no good. Replaced throttle body with the built in throttle position sensor & new foot pedal controller still no good. Replaced speed position sensor-no good. The car just won't go unless you take your foot of the pedal & it will go slowly. Also shifts hard from first to second gear. Never own another Nissan,. Bought this for my daughter to go safely to collage 5 months $4000 ago & within first month it ran hot & cost me a motor replacement $ 1500 more & now this. After reading about so people having the same problem, it's there any way we could get to gether to start a class action lawsuit.
