Altima 2.5 S 2.5L

The oil light came on and I discovered I was 2 quarts low. I took it to a mechanic who replaced the head gasket at a cost of $175. He also did an oil change. Two weeks later, the oil light came back on. I added 3 more quarts. I have discovered numerous complaints about excessive oil usage in this car. I saw there was a recall issued for 2006 Nissan Altima's for the same issue.

I would like to see a recall for the same engine in a car 2 years newer! Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Altima S 2.5L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 56,000 miles

The car is using about 1/2 a quart of oil every 1500 miles. Bought the car used with 52,000 miles and suspect the excessive oil usage is why the previous owner sold the car. The car runs great except for the rattling engine when accelerating on cold mornings before the car is completely warmed up and the occasional huge cloud of white smoke that billows out occasionally upon start-up. Dealership will not honor the warranty because I cannot prove the oil has been changed regularly in the car.
