CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Nissan Altima has multiple problem trends including the CVT transmission, and now that this model is out of warranty, it earns our "Avoid Like The Plague" badge.

Owners complain about vibration and transmission failure related to the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), a whining noise from the power steering pump, and constant windshield problems that appear to be the result of poor design.

Be warned: the 2014 & 2015 Nissan Altima appears to share these same problems.

My Nissan Altima was only 23 months on the road when all of the lights, speedometer, gas gauge, steering column functions (cruise control, sound system, blinkers etc) stopped working. Scary experience as I was driving on the highway at the time. I had no way to know how fast I was traveling or even if I had any fuel. The sound system worked fine just not able to use the steering wheel functions. Blinkers worked on the outside, but no indicators. Car had 41,000 miles, 23 months of service, so no Warranty. Nissan USA's customer service was awful. They provided some compensation for the $1,200.00+ repair, but not nearly enough. Nissan is aware that this issue can occur with this vehicle, and they do not work with their customers. I will never purchase a new or pre-owned Nissan again. I would advise others to stay away as well.
