My car started "sputtering" and shutting off when in motion or coming to a stop. The car then started to rev the engine between 2-3rpm when I was driving at a constant speed. When I was driving on a major highway, the car revved past 4rpm and completely shut off without warning. I was luckily able to stop the car, but no one should ever have to endure that dangerous and potentially catastrophic event. I took my car to the Nissan dealer and they said that my transmission needed to be replaced. It is apparent that Nissan had knowingly sold cars with faulty transmissions that would fail far before an acceptable time with many consumers facing the high cost of repairing the transmission. As I was hoping this was a one-off situation and that no one else experienced this, but it looks like this is a frequent complaint for the Nissan Altima 2014. Nissan should be held responsible for the transmission replacement and extend their power train warranty to 120,000 miles or 10 years as they have for their car models from 2003-2010.

Transmission, called "throw away transmission" by 3 different mechanics. Code came on during freeway driving. Have been told by 3 mechanics (including the Nissan dealer) nothing can be done but replace the transmission.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. While driving 50 mph, there was an abnormal noise under the hood. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission failed and drained the torque. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima that revs up while I;M driving and then stops. I turn it off and start it again. It does this constantly. It's very dangerous because I'm driving and all of a sudden, I hear a revving up sound, the car starts to hesitate, , it slows down and then comes to a complete stop. It doesn;T give me a chance to pull off the road. I have to immediately put on my hazard lights. It stops without warning. Once I hear the revving up sound, within a few seconds she hesitates, slows down and come to a complete stop. Very, very dangerous. The car hesitates when making turns also. Car does not accelerate if you stop at a light like she suppose to. Let me explain. When I'm at a red light and the light turns green, I put my foot on the gas and the car does not accelerate, she hesitates, go slowly, then kicks in and allows you to proceed. I'm very afraid to drive it. I have heard others and on the news say peoples experience with their Nissan Altima shutting down just like mine. For me its shutting down everywhere. It's happened on the highway, street, always when in motion, during turns, after stopping at a red light and its time to proceed. I've almost gotten hit by other cars many times when she suddenly stalls. Something is wrong with this vehicle. I don't have video of incident because it hasn't had an accident yet, but I'm sure an accident can happen at any day. I'm nervous every time I drive it. It's the mercies of god that I haven't had an accident. Please note I was almost in an accident that would have badly injured or killed me when I was making a left turn on hwy 78. The car stalled while making a left turn. The SUV almost hit me as I was making my left turn and the car stalled and the SUV stopped just as it was about to hit me. I was shaken up so badly, I had to park my car and calm my nerves. This shouldn't be happening. It's a dangerous car.

Cvt dtc code P17F0 brought the car to the dealer to have the cvt fluid changed at the 60,000 mile service. The dealer showed me the dtc code indicating that there is a cvt problem. The dealer also stated that when the 2014 Altima with an L33 engine came out, Nissan was changing the cvt because the code indicates an imminent failure. The dealer stated that since then because it cost Nissan too much, Nissan has started to rebuild the cvt and the dealers have a trained mechanic to rebuild the cvt and correct the cvt judder code. The dealer stated they would contact Nissan and advise what how Nissan will correct the deficiency. Now over 2 weeks, the dealer has not returned my phone calls to advise how Nissan will handle. My wife drives the car with my young daughter and I travel for work. I am now concerned the cvt will be problems when I am away and could inadvertently cause a traffic accident when she is driving if the cvt fails. This should be a safety campaign that the NHTSA takes on and pursues. Nissan knows about their problems and eventually when there is a failure on the highway someone will get killed or it has already happened and the causal factors have not been identified attributed to the accident. This is a major safety concern and it seems like Nissan is not concerned or performing a recall just as the way Nissan is handling the takata air bag problems in their cars. Further, it is extremely interesting that when the car has been in for pas service, the other Nissan dealers did not do the quick simple check of the codes to ensure there were no problems. Wouldn't it benefit them as it could produce business?? how stupid and poor service we receive from the dealers.

Replaced transmission at 84000 miles at a cost of $4100 because of shuddering and stalling. At 100600 miles and 11 months later the transmission failed the exact same way again. Nissan would not cover the cost of another replacement. It cost me another $1050 with the help of the dealer and Nissan who know they have a totally faulty transmission and won't acknowledge. It stalled and shutterdat a highway intersection and was a dangerous problem. I am lucky I wasn't smashed into on the highway.

Have had jerking and shuddering problems while trying to excel, several months after purchasing my car in 2016. At that time it had approx.24,000 miles on it, the dealership took care of the transmission issue. I just recently took it back again with the same issue the car had no power when trying to excel onto the highway, and was very hesitant and unsafe. The transmission had to be completely replaced! the vehicle only has 43,000 miles on it, which leaves me very concerned, and with my warranty almost up. I am very concerned as I see this is an obvious problem with this vehicle, that I consider still new.

This is the second transmission issue I've had in less than a year. The car began shaking in February and stopped on me while at a stop light. There have been no check engine lights or anything to alert me of an issue. Now the car will hesitate severly before shifting gears. If I take the care out of park into drive or reverse, it takes upwards of 30 seconds for the car to engage into that gear. I have been stranded at home and at grocery stores due to the faulty transmission which I'm now being told needs to be replaced. I have had to endure random moments of shaking and even feeling as if the car has died while driving on the freeway. There have been no indicator lights regarding any issues with the car the car is less than 5yrs old and is a little over 100K miles I have been having transmission issues now for about almost a year.

At 53,000 miles the transmission would no longer function.transmission had to be replaced.at about 130,000 miles I notice that when headlights were on low beam you could barely see the road at night time.so I did some research on thi vehicle what I found out was on Nissan Altima manufactured between 2013 -2015 have the same problem.you do not have sufficient lighting on low beam.you have to use high beam on dark roads.this is a major safety issue with these vehicles.I have had the Nissan dealership in my local area new port richey put in the exact bulbs car came with from factory same issue poor lighting on low beam.I then had Nissan dealership put in bulbs that I purchased on line these bulbs put out 8000 lumens and these bulbs are led bulbs.the factory Nissan bulbs put out 1200 lumens and are halogen bulbs.both sets of bulbs I got same result insuffiecient lighting on low beam.the Nissan technician told me I would have to replace both headlight assemblies at a cost of $700.I feel these headlight lens were a manufacturing defect without question therefore I feel Nissan should be held liable for replacing the defective parts.I have receipts from dealership for work performed.I have also filed a complaint with the BBB autoline dept, and filed a compaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs.this is a very hazardous situation and god forbid someone will lose their life over something like this.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled at a stop light. The engine revved, but the vehicle would not accelerate. The dealer (crown Nissan of Decatur, 165 w pershing rd, Decatur, il 62526, (217) 615-1047) diagnosed that there was internal transmission failure. The dealer and manufacturer opened a case and agreed to reimburse the contact for 90% of the repair cost. The repair would consist of installing a re-manufactured transmission covered by a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty. The contact researched online and found that there was a class action lawsuit filed against the manufacturer because the re-manufactured transmission had a history of failing. The failure mileage was 68,000. Update 2/20/19

The cvt transmission is stuttering between gears, has hesitation, vibrations, and does not shift properly. I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealer on 11/15/2017 with 76K miles and they told me I needed to change the transmission fluid. I had them change the fluid and the transmission was worse. The problem got a little better, but never went away. It never generated a code for a specific problem, but the service advisor said there is a problem with the transmission thinking it is in overdrive and not reacting properly. It is now a year later and another 30K miles and the transmission is still stuttering with vibrations at every speed and even on cruise control.
