Okay, so I am on the freeway and I believe a small rock hit my windshield. With any other car I am positive this wouldn't have caused a crack but maybe a nick which could be filled for free. Then with the heat, the crack became much larger which caused a big concern for me, I didn't want a ticket for a cracked windshield.

I called the dealership who referred me to the company who fixes the dealership windshields, It cost me 375.00 for a stock product not after manufactured part. Not a month later a car throws a rock at my car, it didn't hardly make a sound and once again my windshield cracked. On a different car this would not have happened ever. I have been driving for 30+ years and never replaced a windshield let alone two in a matter of a month. So, the next thing I do because I am so irritated I perform a Google search to see if this has been a problem for other people who have owned an Altima with the windshield that has cracked and it has. The year 2014 so far is not as bad as 2013. I have decided to gamble on the windshield this time and not replace it until my lease is up.

I woke up to a crack in my windshield. My car was in the garage overnight and had not suffered any damages on that day. The crack started near the top center, near the rear view mirror. It has grown vertically and then toward the driver's side of the windshield.

After seeing others describe this same thing, I'm wondering if I should complain to my dealer. As the weather has been getting warmer, the crack is growing. I'm getting an estimate this week for a replacement.

Any suggestions on replacement windshields?

cracked windshield

I was on the highway driving to work doing normal speeds at 65mph-70mph when I heard a very faint tap on my windshield. I thought nothing of it because I didn't see any cracks or signs of impact while I kept on driving. I get to work and go about my day as usual. 5 hours later I go to lunch and grab something from my car and I see a 18inch crack from the roof to the center of the windshield. HOW THE F@CK does this happen in a matter of 5 hours???

I called Nissan corporate and opened up a case with them after seeing all these issues everyone had and for some funny reason they weren't aware of this ever being an issue. They set me up with a dealership tomorrow and they will perform an "impact test" to see if it was hit by a rock. I highly doubt they are going to take responsibility for this so I already contacted my insurance company who agreed to go after Nissan if they don't replace it under factory warranty.

This is my first Nissan and I am very disappointed in the quality of their vehicles. If I wanted a piece of crap I would've saved my money and bought a Kia. They are both on the same levels now in my eyes.

I purchased my Altima in March of 2014. Brand new off the lot. In June, with only 5k miles on my car, I was driving to work. There were no other vehicles in front or beside me. I heard an extremely loud pop and noticed a crack spidering up my windshield from the very center bottom. I was literally watching it spread. By the time I got to work (5 minutes later) the crack was close to two feet long. There is no evidence of anything actually hitting it.

Then again, today, a rock flew up and actually hit my windshield and my husband was shocked to see how fast the crack spread. With the same speed as before. I've never had a vehicle with a windshield that would do this. It seems to be made of an extremely cheap and thin glass. No doubt a defect that Nissan won't be paying for. But I'm saving my receipt for the new windshield because I have no doubt that eventually there will be a recall on these with the number of complaints I've seen. I advise everyone else do the same.

Took another hit and the windshield cracked again. I have many cars and never had a cracked windshields. Usually have pits but they never propagate like this. I think there has to be stress on the window.

I have under 8,000.00 miles on this car and have already replaced the front windshield twice. Now I have a third crack about 2 feet long with apparently a rock that hit the window. When a rock hits, it splits at least 6 inches you have absolutely no chance of getting it repaired you have to replace the window. I've only had this car since May 2014 and now here on September 2, 2014, I need to replace this window for the third time. Obviously there is a problem, Safelite Repair has already replaced my window twice, they say Nissan makes the front windshield glass way too thin to compensate for "good gas mileage" so it cracks very easily. So at 8,000 miles now I'm replacing it for the third time - another $100.00 deductible. Is it going to break next month, seems every other month I'm replacing the windshield. This is the first Nissan I've owned, did I make the right decision or what? Come on Nissan, people are posting issues with these windshields, recall it and make it right. Who cares if we don't get as good gas mileage having to constantly replace a windshield is definitely not saving me money.

Hit by a small rock and the windshield immediately cracked to about 10+ inches. This Altima windshield is crap.. I had a Mazda6 driving down the same road for three years and never cracked once. Only had this car for less than 3 months and 5k miles

Parked my car outdoors and found an approx 18 inch crack in the windshield the next morning. It was not there the previous evening and there was no sign that anything had hit or chipped the window. It was simply cracked with no explanation.

I note that there are also numerous similar complaints for the 2013 Altima and suspect a Manufacturing defect as the 2014 model is unchanged from the 2013.
