CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.

In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.

Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

When I purchased the car, the front speakers worked great and all of a sudden they stopped working. Once in a while they will work and then they will stop again. Hence another issue with this car. I love my car and don't want to get rid of it. I stand behind chevy and have always owned a chevy, but the last 2 cars that i have had, have not been good. I bought a brand new aveo and at 900 miles I had to have a quarter of the engine rebuilt, i took that to the dealership multiple times and they said nothing was wrong with it. The dealership could not explain why the engine light kept coming on. I am so glad I got rid of that piece of crap. Now I am starting to have issues with this cobalt and it is getting frustrating!

Speaker on driver side went out first shortly after purchase, but occasionally works. It works when it wants too. It works probably 15% of the time throughout the year. Now the passenger side speaker is doing the same thing.

Chevy uses cheap crap speakers. My fiance also has an HHR and all the speakers (except tweeters) went out.

Cobalt LT3 2.2L 4 cyl

Warning chimes and blinker sounds come through radio into front left door speaker. Bad speaker means no audible warning of low gas, power steering failure, etc. Speakers were built by Panasonic Mexico with no rain shield and plastic (not metal) housing. Poor front door window seals allow moisture to enter easily and probably contribute to short lifespan of already cheap speakers. Many, many complaints from Cobalt owners of no sound from front door speakers. Chevy should threaten lawsuit against Matsushita (like Chrysler did) for repair & replacement costs of defective product. Customers should not have to foot this bill.
