CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.

In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.

Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

My cobalt was dying at random in traffic. Has the Throttle body assembly replaced, fuel system cleaned etc... Then one day everything just shut down..like I didn't have a battery in a car. Couldn't even turn the ignition off, or shift into neutral to push it...no trunk pop, dome light, door locks...nothing! This will even happen while driving, disabling the air bags and your onstar system. it is VERY dangerous. After a LOT of money and several shops, it appears to be a bad pcm. Considering the PCM regulates power to pretty much EVERYTHING in the car, this seems logical. And the diagnostic sends a code back saying "PCM UNABLE TO RETAIN MEMORY" what you are experiencing, is the pcm trying to reboot. this cuts everything off. costs around 800 dollars to repair

WTF!!!!! We bought this car for for my 18 year old daughter and our 9 month old grandson so she would have something "safe" and "reliable" to drive. So they're driving on the interstate close to Nashville!!!! 2 hours from home!!! At night!!! and the damn car just stops!! Just freakin stops on the interstate, at night!! So I google what could possibly be the problem and find this site with dozens of people having the same problem. WTF, Chevy?!?!

Seriously, I'm so mad right now! I will NEVER buy another Chevy!! And we have 3 more children who will be needing vehicles, so take that chevy!!! I have an 03 Odyssey with over 150,000 miles, my husband still driving a 99 Nissan! Buy foreign!!! If God forbid, something were to happen to my family because of this I will sue your ass off, Chevy because you knew about this problem and did nothing!!! You suck!!

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt that stalls while driving down the road for no reason with no warning, the lights, dash gauges, radio, everything just powers off while driving. After coasting to a stop it has always restarted shortly after and ran fine but still very dangerous when traveling on the e way or busy highway. I have been researching the problem and found many of the same complaints for all the model years of the Cobalt and all have been told by the dealer there isn't anything wrong. I have always been a Chevy man but if GM doesn't get there head out of there rear and come up with a recall to fix this issue it will be the last GM product I will ever buy!
