CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.

In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.

Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

My power steering went out while driving in a city road! not a good idea! I had to turn the car off and start it again to gain control! what happened next the power steering was lost again. I looked this problem up and found that many other people have this problem! I'd rather not crash my car because of something GM wont fix.. make this a recall! it's needed.

My name is crystal marie torres, and I purchased a 2007 Chevy Cobalt and it's barely going to be 2 years in December that I've purchased it! the power steering is already going out and the light appears. I don't believe if I'm paying for practically a new vehicle it shouldn't be doing this so soon. I've always done my best to take care of my vehicle, so why is the power steering failing!!! I got on the internet to investigate this situation with other Cobalt customers, they too are having the same issue.... something needs to be done, otherwise there will be lawsuits going into action for false advertisement on such a great car! not fair to the public who has been nothing but loyal customers!!! help resolve this issue soon!!! here is the sight where others are posting their issues with the same conflict on their Cobalts! www.topix.com.

I am having an incident with my power steering locking up in my 2007 Chevy Cobalt and I have replaced the gear box Nov of 2008 and it is back to doing it again. I am afraid that if it locks up on a curve with my children in the car on a curve it may not stay on the road and lead to an accident. I have reported this problem to GM and have had no luck.

My 2007 Cobalt purchased in amid May 2009 has a defect in the power steering which is located in the steering column. I have researched and found out that over 10,000 customers have the same issue. The repair costs $649 at al Sierra in grand blanc mi intermittently the car randomly looses its power steering and it can occur at any time. I presume this can be dangerous especially on icy roads.

I was driving my car on a straight stretch of road for about 5 miles at about 45 mph when the car's information screen read "power steering" and the wheel locked up. I was able to safely pull into my place of work but with a lot difficulty as the power steering was out. I turned the car off and then on again the problem was gone. I took it to the dealership the next day and they said it was a very common problem and they would need to replace the steering column. This is an extremely dangerous problem and needs to be addressed by GM. How many accidents need to happen before GM does something about this. I have an earlier model of this same car and have the same issue now only GM refuses to fix it because it is past it's warranty period. This is a serious defect and I now im not the only one having this issue. Two of the same model cars with the same issue at the same house is a problem.

Power steering on my Chevy Cobalt goes out while driving, fortunately I haven't had a wreck. I read about this all over the internet and a bunch of people have the same problem. I think GM should do a recall on these vehicles.

While driving my Chevrolet Cobalt the power steering will cut out. The only way to get it to come back on is to turn the ignition off and start it back up. You do not have to turn the car off, just to acc. Thankfully this has only happened to me while I had to negotiate turns at slow speeds and straight roads of 45+. I would not like this problem to occur while I am on the highway at speeds of 55+.

Steering wheel shaking makes noise, popping, grinding while driving and turning then doesn't feel right. Have had the problem four times this is the fifth time. The steering column and parts have been replaced four times this would be the fifth we were told by the first tech the steering wheel column would fall off in our hands and we wouldn't be able to steer the car and we have been fishing over this safteyissue with GM since. Before there is a fatality they keep replacing it cost money we are without vehicle for time to fix stress neverknowing if or when it will fall off we don't want to die in a car accident or kill someone they will not replace the car keep saying its safe thenwhy do they have too keep replacing it if it isn't a defect in how its attached to frame. We are scared enough to keep taking it back when it starts making the noise etc instead of waiting for it to fall off in our hands or lock up so we couldn't steer enough is enough we don't know what else to do or how to get help we still owe on the car bought it new and this all started 4-6 months after we bought it.

The power steering goes out with no warning. This happens now every time I drive my car. For some reason it seems to be related to the temp outside. I took it to the dealership and they quoted me $ 700 to fix this problem. As a single mother this is beyond my means. I feel this is dangerous for myself and my child.

Bought 2007 Chevy Cobalt certified used with 38,000 miles. About 5 months later the power steering starts to fail. Power steering reads in the information box and wheel becomes extremely hard to turn. This problem is off and on and has been getting worse (happening more often) as time has passed. This has been revealed to be a very common problem in Cobalts and makes driving conditions very dangerous. Am told the entire steering column and associated parts may need replacement.
